Grand Union Canal 12
Making our way slowly towards the Thames
Next on our walk is Stockers Lock and House

This photo could be considered misleading. In the background are two buildings. The front, white one, is the lock cottage, whereas the taller, stock brick building behind, is Stockers House (grade II listed), built for the City of London Corporation as a residence for its Collector of the Coal Dues on the Grand Junction Canal. To the left can be seen the lock gates and behind it the bridge to the house. In front, a mirror pond. The canal at this location has a distinctly rural feel as we pass Stockers Farm. Horses are grazing and one of them is about to have a drink at the canal.

December, 2012: Entering Ludlow Castle, snapped with a Nikon p7000 CCD camera. I loved using that camera. You can still buy these old cameras with real knobs and dials - perfect for those with twiddly fingers.

Making our way slowly towards the Thames
Below Batchworth Lock the River Colne leaves the canal.

On the Grand Union Canal a boat chugs towards us, passing a towpath bridge over the leaving River Colne. On the boat a woman takes a photograph of the leaving river. The Colne, as it leaves the Grand Union canal, forms a tranquil green pool for a lone fisherman.

High windows. 32 Pearson Park, Hull.

Philip Larkin lived in the top floor flat for 18 years, from 1955 to 1973. Most of the poems in 'The Whitsun Weddings' and 'High Windows' were written here. The windows look out onto Pearson Park with its lake and bandstand, and statue of Queen Victoria.
