Last Saturday, members of YHP went to the event 'Painted with Care: Celebrating African Women in British Healthcare' at The Africa Centre, to commemorate our project: 'African Women in British Healthcare, 1930 - 2000'. #EachOneTeachOne✊🏿
Text on screen reads as follows:

Medicinal plants from the Africa

The background motif is formed of medicinal plants located on the African continent. Great care was taken to research ensuring that plants from across the continent were selected. among the featured elements, the mangrove forests for their rich biodiversity evidenced by numerous varieties that could be located across the African continent as well as across the Caribbean. By incorporating mangroves into the mural, we honour the intertwined histories of African and Caribbean people in Britain and the broader context of pan - African politics. Text reads as follows:

African Women in the British Health Sector

Through this project we were able to uncover the lives and experiences of African women who worked in the health sector in the UK between 1930 - 2000.

African women had a wide range of experiences within the NHS. Our documentary explores their childhood and migration stories, their training and careers in healthcare, and general facets of life in Britain as Black women.

This is on Facebook, I scrolled for a bit and every single comment I saw, no exaggeration, was either "you liar, too many foreigners, vote Reform" or "you're meant to be the Labour Party what is this fash shit". There was nobody going "thank you, Sir Keir".
Keir Starmer: I've already returned over 24,000 people with no right to be here. And I won't stop there.

stancil calls the idea that US racism influenced hitler a "buzzy and incorrect take" in the replies to this, but hitler literally wrote about being influenced by US immigration policy in mein kampf. like he just says it outright, it's not an inference or a guess or anything. he wrote it himself!
Somehow I have amassed 12 followers (including some pretty big names for some reason), which is about half of the followers I had on *that* website. So thank you.

Obviously things have got dramatically worse in the US recently, and I don't want to diminish that, but I've been at *so many* conferences in the UK on topics like empire, humanitarianism and development where multiple speakers from the Global South have been denied visas or held at the border

I just attended a conference in the US. We had one speaker detained and two others turned away at the border.

There are great conferences and science in the US, but with the way things are right now, it’s too risky to attend.

The President of the United States engaged in insider trading, and laughed about it.

He is not exempt from the law.

SCOOP: The Trump admin appears to be going into a visa database to quietly change students' immigration status. It's coming entirely by surprise — setting students up to be detained without warning.

It's Mahmoud Khalil & Rumeysa Ozturk — on a wider scale.

UPDATE: Alireza Doroudi — an Iranian University of Alabama engineering PhD student detained by ICE yesterday — is being held in the Jena/LaSalle Detention Facility in Louisiana.

The same place Mahmoud Khalil was taken to.

His lawyer & student activists say Doroudi was not involved in protests.

Consider this. 6 people in plainclothes approach you, and begin to cover their faces. At least one appears armed. As they grab your phone and backpack, they do not prove who they are. They say they're going to take you, but they're not saying why.

What would you call that?

The Massachusetts governor, the city, and the university needs to drop everything to locate and free this girl and make sure this doesn't happen again.

This is DEFCON-1. If they do this to someone who wrote an op-ed in a college newspaper, they will do this to anyone they don't like.

Video of the international student at Tufts being arrested by "federal authorities" in Massachusetts has been released and it's terrifying.

They're not even uniformed officers. Just secret police thugs in hoodies and masks.

you often see partisan political cheerleading compared to sports, but most sports fans i've met usually have some opinions about the tactics of their favorite team, or are even willing to criticize the management when they make bad calls. political cheerleaders are less sophisticated than that

Do not let the world look away. Keep fighting, keep telling our stories—until Palestine is free."

- For the last time, Hossam Shabat, from northern Gaza.

23 and he knew to leave a death note.
PRESS
hossam_shbat 4h
This is Hossam's team, and we are sharing his final message :
"If you're reading this, it means I have been killed
-most likely targeted-by the Israeli occupation forces. When this all began, I was only 21 years old-a college student with dreams like anyone else. For past 18 months, I have dedicated every moment of my life to my people. I documented the horrors in northern Gaza minute by minute, determined to show the world the truth they tried to bury. I slept on pavements, in schools, in tents
-anywhere I could. Each day was a battle for survival. I endured hunger for months, yet I never left my people's side.
By God, I fulfilled my duty as a journalist. I risked everything to report the truth, and now, I am finally at rest-something I haven't known in the past 18 months. I did all this because I believe in the Palestinian cause. I believe this land is ours, and it has been the highest honor of my life to die defending it and serving its people.
I ask you now: do not stop speaking about Gaza.
Do not let the world look away. Keep fighting, keep telling our stories—until Palestine is free."
