Park Chan-wook’s DECISION TO LEAVE remains a favorite — romantic, playful, elusive, thrilling, tragic, and darkly funny, often at once.

I spoke to Park about linguistic slippage, hidden temperaments, and other obfuscations in his beguiling twist on detective noir: theplaylist.net/decision-to-...

“Casual moviegoing — when people show up to the theater on a whim and watch whatever is available — has been decreasing, particularly since the pandemic. Not only are there not enough movies bringing people in, but they’re often not in theaters long enough for people to discover them”

The casual moviegoer is a thing of the past. That's a big problem for Hollywood

it’s a shame that Winston Churchill was such a horrible person because “We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender” is some banger rallying-the-troops wording

I wrote a little thing for the @nytimes.com's T Magazine about a spate of recent film performances by women who speak very little--not because their voices are being repressed, but because silence is their own particular way of wielding power. www.nytimes.com/2024/11/25/t...
Why Some of the Year’s Best Performances Are From Actresses Who Say Very Little
Films like “Conclave” and “Bird” provide a stark contrast to the recent succession of films about women finding their voices.
