When I titled my book "Democracy May Not Exist, but We'll Miss It When It's Gone" I really did not anticipate how hard that phrase would eventually hit.

ICE has been pulling guns on civilians, spraying tear gas in the face of protestors who film them, shooting priests with pepper spray and pellets—and, increasingly it seems, targeting journalists and others trying to document their activities. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/08/o...

It will also disconnect students from each other—and in a world fractured by various flavors of technofascism, I cannot think of a more disastrous thing (which is likely partly why AI fetishists are pushing for AI in schools and universities)

“One of the negative consequences AI is having on students is that it is hurting their ability to develop meaningful relationships with teachers, the report finds. Half of the students agree that using AI in class makes them feel less connected to their teachers.”

My gosh. After the US bombed multiple boats in the middle of the ocean, murdering people on grounds that they were allegedly "carrying drugs," the US Attorney General says "Just like we did with cartels, we're going to take the same approach, President Trump, with Antifa."

Greta Thunberg, deported to Greece, says the targeting of the Sumud Flotilla is "not the story" @teenvogue.com — instead, she says:

"Israel once again violated international humanitarian law by preventing aid from getting into Gaza while people are being starved.”

I really enjoyed this essay by Audrey Borowski on Günther Anders & his prescience on the impact of technology.

“The atom bomb…illuminates that the more ‘our’ technological power grows, the smaller we become… singled out as being expendable and inadequate.”

aeon.co/essays/gunth...
Excerpt from “Philosopher of the apocalypse” by Audrey Borowski about Gunter Anders, aeon NEWSLETTER

“in this regard, which Anders hoped to make 'visible for the first time', lay in the transformation of the human condition, a transformation that had become as naturalised and imperceptible as it was destructive. 'The atom bomb,' he argued, was 'thus the ultimate emblem of an unearthly, unsettling and haunting force channelled by complex technological objects: it illuminates that the more "our" technological power grows, the smaller we become; the more unconditional and unlimited the capability of machines, the more conditional our existence; the more machines connect us by virtue of their very existence, the more we are also singled out as being expendable and inadequate!'” Excerpt from “Philosopher of the apocalypse” by Audrey Borowski about Gunter Anders:

“‘Man is probably not a machine, but he behaves as such in a situation where the machines im se his operating rules. Indeed, the progress of technology should not be understood as necessarily being the progress of mankind: far from it, they are not accompanied by a progress of thought, reflection and responsibility, since they eliminate their intervention and even often make them impossible.’ [end quote by Gunter Anders.]

Crucially, man increasingly found himself enlisted in the production of his own disappearance in the most natural manner possible.”

What was as striking (pardon the pun) as the strike itself was how enthusiastic and chill all the inconvenienced people seemed to be. I got where I needed to go about five hours later than scheduled. Everyone I spoke to along the way said the delays were worth it.

The government is in full shutdown and the Republicans are refusing to call the House back into session.

Want to know why?

Because we have secured the final vote on releasing the Epstein Files and they don’t want it out.

Call GOP and tell them to swear in @adelitaforcongress.bsky.social.

I’m told ICE attacked us—despite us being off the street, courtesy of the state police—to create a spectacle because Kristi Noem was present today. Here’s some footage of her and her team on the roof of Broadview. Everything is content creation to these fascists.
