“Pairing free buses with paid parking says we value people in motion more than cars at rest,” writes Nicolas Rohatyn.
Opinion | The Way to Pay for Free Buses Is to End Free Parking
Free buses would be transformative not only for riders, but for the ecosystem of the city as a whole.

I joined @pbsnews.org to talk about There Is No Place for Us and the staggering rise of the "working homeless":

I feel like hand-making postcards for the holidays would be cool if it wasn't for the fact that idk what to do with post cards, and I don't know what other people do with them, and I wouldn't want to put hours of work into something that just gets thrown out after a few seconds.

It is absolutely shocking to me that windows does not ship with basic PDF utilities. It is 2025, I should not have to pay Adobe to merge a couple of PDFs into one file. Every desktop Linux distro has been able to do this since like 2004

Just so I'm clear on this, computer memory has tripled in price because a bunch of it that hasn't been produced yet has been ordered to populate GPUs that aren't installed in data centers that aren't built yet in order to service a demand that doesn't exist to make profits that don't happen.

What a weird change for bluesky to make it so that muting someone immediately removes their post from your feed. I used to use that to mute and then select "show less like this" in one fell swoop.

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

You ever think about how conscious time is basically the most valuable thing we have and it’s been commodified for us to labor for other people’s benefit and all the objects around the world are the embodiment of people’s lives spent on this process :)

Silky scarves with characters from the International Phonetic Alphabet on them!

Originally only in red, navy, and olive these scarves became so popular we later expanded to other colours and subfields
