During my childhood summers, I lived in rural East Galway, out in the west of Ireland, with my beloved grandparents.

While much of what and who I remember is gone now, it still tugs on my heart, so I write about it.

Labbacallee • Cork

Labbacallee is Ireland’s largest example of a wedge tomb.

The name Labbacallee derives from Leaba Chaillí, which can be roughly translated to ‘The Hag’s Bed’.

Archaeologists discovered the remains of an adult woman, a man, and a child. All dating between 2456–1776 BC.

Fair play for even trying to learn it in the first place! I tried to keep up daily practice using Duolingo and found it okay, but I'd say for a newcomer it must be challenging?! Ole Duolingo doesn't give a lot of context for our grammar rules I've noticed...

I've been struggling lately to establish how I fit in, if at all, in certain places. I just haven't found anywhere that has an Ayfa-shaped slot to fill. I have to change my shape and reassess my boundaries quite often and that can be tiring.

Learning about yourself never ends, I guess.
