queer kids are our future 🏳️‍🌈
In case anyone didn’t believe in the literacy crisis among the kids, my eighth graders loudly complained about being given a six page story and it took many of them about an hour and a half to read it. And then lots of them said they didn’t get very basic things in the story. And I’m so tired.

It’s honestly shocking how often I am just casually reading and then people eating gluten free catches a stray with some snarky comment in the narrative.

If I wasn’t already invested, this celiac would dnf because WHY do we need to make fun of what people eat???

"Academics literally cannot make genAI go away" we also can't make underage drinking go away and we're not advocating for installing bar carts in every classroom.

Absolutely head over heels for episode five of Heated Rivalry. I can’t help but react as loudly and as giddily as possible to this show.

Shockingly, this bill would have failed were it not for the 3 Democrat defections.
Just now, a national trans healthcare felony ban for youth has passed the US House, with 10 year prison terms.

3 Dems crossed party lines to vote to jail providers.

4 GOP crossed party lines to vote against.

It is not expected to pass the Senate, where Dems hold filibuster power.

Story to come.

Cutting nearly 50 kids from the musical, some of them students I absolutely adore as people, makes my heart hurt. I should feel relieved to be done. Instead I’m just thinking of how they are going to feel and hating myself a little.

When I take Enigma to the vet she tells me she hates me. When I take Ro she screams like I’m hurting her. I don’t know which is worse.
Arguing with my cat like I know, how dare I care about your health enough to take you to regular vet visits. Do you know how much these vet visits cost me? It would be so much cheaper to not care about your health. But I do. And instead of thanking me, you hiss and growl at me. Because how dare I.

I want to stay home so badly bc I was at work until 6:30 for auditions last night… But I keep reminding myself it’s only four more days and I don’t want to write sub plans.

But oh my god I don’t want to have to go to work and then rush home to take my cat to the vet. I want to relax!!!

Two and a half hours of middle school musical auditions later, I am collapsed on my couch. And we’ll do it again on Monday.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

“[Book banners] do not want safe children -- they want obedient children, and they think they can accomplish that by deciding what books are allowed to be on the shelf.”
On Saturday, @authorsabb.bsky.social won the ALAN Award at @ncte.org, and I was honored to accept it on our behalf.

This is the speech I gave.

I have convinced myself that if I had a boox palma I would read way more than doom scroll bc I could just carry it around everywhere. I’ve also convinced myself that if I got the color one, I’d finally actually catch up on my webtoons.

Probably neither of these are true but still.

I hate this. transparent example of how these self-serving comemierdas make a point of appropriating the language around every effort towards strong pluralistic humane societies, not only using it to attack those efforts but diluting it in hopes that it can't be used for its original purpose.

The canned curriculum we are required to implement just emailed me about their new AI tools.

I’m serious that in the next couple years, we will be forced to use and teach with AI or they’ll threaten our jobs. They want to be able to replace us. And the kids will be the victims.

Just learned about Félicette the space cat and it’s unironically ruining my night bc not only did she deserve better, she also looks like my first baby. My one named after the stars.

It is completely normal to sulk because an eighth grader told you that another eighth grader said that you do too much. Very normal.

Decision Desk HQ has called the Virginia governors race for Spanberger. The millions of dollars in anti trans ads fell completely flat there.

Made this for a coworker friend’s upcoming baby. Feedback upon receipt:

“I love it! I would have loved it even if it wasn’t good, but it’s actually really good.”

And

“I’m not sure my wife will let the baby have it. It might just be hers. Looks like her cat, you know. Did you somehow see our cat?”
