They are almost instantly recognizable, mostly due to having a 9 foot wingspan and being the size of a small car🤣
This white pelican was hanging out with a bunch of cormorants, when it decided it was time to go for a cruise around the lake!

A white pelican with its huge yellow bill and bright orange feet, takes off from a small lake in late evening light. It has kicked up a splash with its feet as it’s taking off.

I went to the garden shop early & enjoyed just looking around. Ahh Spring!! I got my new garden hose attachment because the other one broke. I don’t throw much away & instead fix, reuse & recycle etc but when something breaks & can’t be repaired, I buy a new or secondhand one.

I got bedazzled by the beauty in the garden shop, inc by the orchids. I thought of my mum when I saw them, because she likes them. Have a lovely day wherever you are & whatever you’re doing today! 🌸👋🏽😀

I have a piece on "Ivory Washing" coming out shortly which looks at the misuse of academic expertise to provide unwarranted legitimacy to political views. This is one of my case studies

Just to take stock: the first claim was that there was an entire literature supporting the anti-birthright position. Then, *after* that claim, scholars emerged to post drafts on SSRN. And *now* the government points to a "growing body of modern scholarship" all drafted after the initial claim.

🚨 Just out in Jurisprudence: a special issue, edited by D. Dyzenhaus and G.B. Ratti, devoted to the close relationship between HLA Hart and Norberto Bobbio.

It comprises a.o. the translations into English of five essays by Bobbio, substantial excerpts from the Hart-Bobbio correspondence...

Even the external barrister hired to do the internal review of a NSW GIPA (FoI) decision was told it didn't exist. But it did. It had been emailed to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, Prof. Kathryn McGrath, as requested. She said she discussed it with the VC. The VC signed the contract!

University of Technology Sydney ordered a spreadsheet from KPMG targeting individual academics by research income, which might contravene the bargaining agreement. They repeatedly denied it even existed for several info requests. But that wasn't true. www.thesaturdaypaper.com.au/news/educati...
Exclusive: University sought secret KPMG staff spreadsheet
The University of Technology Sydney denied the existence of a KPMG spreadsheet ranking the research performance of academics, in breach of its EBA, until it was forced to release it.

Tozi just paused chewing on her bone to snap at a passing fly, caught it expertly, then spat it out because yuck. It moved, she killed it gently with her teeth taking care to not let the yucky thing in her mouth then went back to her bone.
Cute chihuahua mix dog with her bone under her paw.

I got to spend time with this 2-year-old black bear earlier this summer. You can tell the bear is young by its ears. Black bears tend to grow into their ears. #mammals 🌿
A young brownish black bear with a light brown back looks eagerly at some potential food off-camera from where it stands in a patch of shrubs. A brownish black bear munches on some Saskatoon berries on a shrub in front of it. The sun shines on its light brown back. A brownish black bear sniffs a shrub for potential food.
