This is really good. Best thing I’ve seen from Dem leadership is a very long time. More, please!

The government is shut down because Trump and the Republicans are hellbent on taking health care away from you.

And they won’t even come to the table to talk to us about it.

This is not about politics. It's about people.

Let’s break it down:

It’s not difficult to emphatically answer “no” to this question in a democracy. The fact that Johnson shrugs a pathetic “meh, it’s not really up to me” signals his tacit agreement.
barrydeutsch.bsky.social
1) Since all the characters in my comic strip want a connection to Jewish community, I don't think your critique here applies.

2) That aside, I already answered your question: "The genocide is being carried out in the name of all Jews. I think that creates a context in which all Jews have a stake."
barrydeutsch.bsky.social
3) In the context of Israel's apologists falsely implying that they alone represent Judaism, it's natural that Jewish critics of Israel want to be known as Jews.

4) Jewish critics of Israel are found among Jews with all levels of participation in Jewish life.
barrydeutsch.bsky.social
They don't say "except for secular Jews."

The genocide is being carried out in the name of all Jews. I think that creates a context in which all Jews, not just the ones you consider legit, have a stake.
barrydeutsch.bsky.social
1) This veers dangerously close to you arbitrating who is and isn't a Jew.

2) Israel's apologists often say that Israel is important to all Jews, because antisemites don't discriminate between secular Jews and religious Jews, but hate us all. Therefore, they say, Israel is important to all Jews.

TRANSCRIPT OF CARTOON

This cartoon has four panels, all showing the front steps of a brownstone building.

PANEL 1

A middle-aged man wearing a kippah stands on the landing atop the steps, making an expansive, welcoming gesture. A woman is standing on the steps talking to him.

MAN: Welcome to the Jewish community! All Jews are welcome!

WOMAN: Are you sure? I’m Jewish, but I don’t keep kosher.

MAN: No matter! A Jew’s a Jew.

PANEL 2

The same man is now talking to someone else, a young guy in a striped t-shirt.

YOUNG GUY: I don’t observe Shabbat. And I never had a Bar Mitzvah.

MAN: That’s no problem! Judaism is for all Jews!

PANEL 3

The same man is now talking to a young woman with curly black hair.

WOMAN: I was raised Jewish, but now I’m an atheist.

MAN: You’re still one of us!

WOMAN: And I’m against Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

PANEL 4

The woman, looking dizzy, is lying on the pavement at the bottom of the stairs, her purse a few feet away. The man, off-panel, yells from the top of the stairs.

MAN: AND STAY OUT!

CHICKEN FAT WATCH

“Chicken fat” is long-hibernating cartoonist slang for funny but unimportant details in a comic.

PANEL 1: The back of the woman’s hoodie says “BAND NAME.”

PANEL 3: Tattoos on the woman’s arm say “This That Other.” There’s also a tattoo of Ignatz Mouse from Krazy Kat.

PANEL 4: There’s a rat on the sidewalk, who is wearing glasses and smoking a pipe. The woman’s tattoos now include a light bulb with a thought balloon showing a lit-up light bulb, Leela from Futurama, a razor crossing a rolling pin, and a slice of pie. On her other arm, tattoos say “Pow Zap” and there’s a tattoo of Krazy from Krazy Kat.

Newspaper on the sidewalk is called “Daily Backgrounder.” The top headline is “Wayward Song To Carry On: Forecasters Predict Peace When Done.” Smaller headlines says “Hidden Pigeons Emerge For Cyanide-Coated Peanuts: Bird Community Vows Revenge” and “Body Found In Chicago: Victim Looks Like Jigsaw Puzzle With Pieces Missing.”

This comment someone just left on my blog, replying to a post I wrote in 2008, is definitely written by a regular human-type human person. No AI here, no sir!

(I didn't approve the comment, but the blog post is here: amptoons.com/blog/?page_i... )
This blog post provides a thought-provoking look at male privilege and how invisible advantages operate in everyday life. I appreciate how it acknowledges that recognizing privilege doesn’t negate men’s struggles, but rather highlights systemic benefits often unnoticed. The checklist format makes it clear and relatable, encouraging self-reflection and awareness. It’s a valuable resource for anyone seeking to understand gender dynamics and the importance of acknowledging and addressing privilege in society.

TRANSCRIPT OF CARTOON

This cartoon has four panels.

PANEL 1

A car and a pickup truck are pulled over on the side of an overpass. There’s an exit ramp with white and green stripes going across it, which in some cities indicates pedestrian and bicyclist crossings. The driver of the car, a woman in an orange top, is walking towards the driver of the pickup, who has gotten out of the truck. He's wearing a blue cap and a red tshirt.

WOMAN: Hey there. I see you're pulled over. You need me to call for help?MAN: Thanks. I'm having the worst day ever!

PANEL 2

A closer shot of the truck driver as he rants. His face is framed by two yellow caution signs with bicycle icons and arrows pointing to the green and white crosswalk lines. The concerned woman is behind him.

MAN: I was just driving along and bam! A bike came out of nowhere! No chance for me to see it coming! Stupid bike riders think they own the road!

PANEL 3

Looking worried, the man points to a dent on his truck's front grill.

MAN: I got a big truck so I'd be safe on the road — and see what happens? Just look at this ding on my truck!

PANEL 4

From the ground in front of the truck, a hand comes up, forefinger raised to get attention. The woman is shocked; the man is annoyed.

BIKER (weak shaky voice): Sorry to interrupt but could you call me an ambulance?MAN: Hey! It's not all about you!

CHICKEN FAT WATCH

Chicken fat is obsolete cartoonists' lingo for unimportant but amusing details in the art.

PANEL 2: A highway sign says "Highway to Heck." The font is called "Highway Gothic."(“Highway to heck” is a reference to a Foxtrot comic. “Some songs just weren’t made for Muzak.” “Some ears weren’t, either.”)

PANEL 3: The logo on the front of the truck says "Dodge SLAM."

This is Adelita Grijalva.

She was elected to Congress two weeks ago, officially making her the final vote needed to force the release of the Epstein files.

She has still not been sworn in because Mike Johnson refuses to do so.

I get that everyone thinks it's a funny little joke when Trump says nonsense about "trangender for everybody" (because really, wtf does that even mean?), but I gotta say that as a trans person, I find it absolutely fucking insane that he's constantly obsessing over trans people existing. It sucks.

Trump: "If we didn't win this election. If we had these people that were running that were ruining our country, destroying our country with their open borders and men playing in women's sports and transgender from everybody and windmills all over the place ... I'm not sure we'd even have a country."

*can cover EVERYthing, I meant.

Sigh.

Especially when we're talking about one single skeet!

No one skeet can cover anything. And Kat (who is Palestinian-American) has talked about the genocide, both here and on her other socials.

I made the mistake of reading quote-retweets.

I have little patience for Israel's advocates who, anytime the genocide against Gaza or a new Israeli atrocity against Palestinians is mentioned, say "how can you mention that but not mention October 7th?"

And I have little patience for the reverse.

Today marks the two-year anniversary of the horrific October 7 attack.

As we mourn the 1,218 lives lost that day, let us also keep alive the dream of a lasting peace and a better future for all.

Ceasefire now. Every hostage must come home. And a safer world for everyone.

For ppl getting upset at this —
Kat Abughazaleh is a Palestinian-American who consistently recognizes Palestinians. She’s memorializing the 7th, and she can do that & continue to address the genocide & how that day has been exploited by Israel.

Some of y’all‘s radicalism is a breathless void.

Fascists are fundamentally incapable of understanding social justice language. To them it's all magic words beyond their comprehension. So they believe, in their rancid little heart of hearts, that invoking those magic words, regardless of context, will somehow validate them and lead them to victory

Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad. Stop believing I wanna see it or that I'll understand, I don't and I won't. If you're just trying to troll me, I've seen way worse, i'll restrict and move on. But please, if you've got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop. It's dumb, it's a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it's NOT what he'd want.
To watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to 'this vaguely looks and sounds like them so that's enough,
, just so
other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop puppeteering them is maddening. You're not making art, you're making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of the history of art and music, and then shoving them down someone else's throat hoping they'll give you a little thumbs up and like it.
Gross. And for the love of EVERYTHING, stop calling it 'the future. Al is just badly recycling and regurgitating the past to be reconsumed. You are taking in the Human Centipede of content, and from the very very end of the line, all while the folks at the front laugh and laugh, consume and consume.
