A small hummingbird with deep magenta and violet plumage is perched on a branch, fluffing its feathers. Its head is turned to the side, showing a bright white forehead and a long, slender bill, set against a soft green background.

OpenAI’s planned data centers will use more power than New York City & San Diego use at their peak consumption, combined. More power than the entire nations of Switzerland & Portugal combined. And San Altman’s buddies in this administration have been cutting all of our energy infrastructure upgrades
Sam Altman’s AI empire will devour as much power as New York City and San Diego combined. Experts say it’s ‘scary’ | Fortune
Andrew Chien told Fortune he’s been a computer scientist for 40 years but we’re close to “some seminal moments for how we think about AI and its impact on society.”

Remember when Cross-Country Checkup appeared to manufacture consent for “51st State” discourse?

Yesterday, the show struck again, placing the UCP’s favourite physician in front of the mic to advance kidnapping, caging, torturing and medical force-feeding of people who use drugs in Alberta. 🧵

If you think ICE raids are impossible here, it may be time to think again…

Bill C-2 is about to import militarized control, racial profiling & mass surveillance right out of Trump’s playbook and into our backyard.

Liberals, centrists and moderates only oppose Donald Trump and Republicans to go back to the status quo that only works for them. But the status quo isn’t working for many people anymore. They are not opposed to the system that gave economic and social insecurity which led to political instability

CBC: plays a clip of BC First Nations chief saying their goal is no pipeline and no tankers on the north coast

Danielle Smith: we’re committed to working with First Nations - but we don’t respect their right to say no.

Oh yeah that’ll work

As others, including Ireland, rush to help their citizens involved with the flotilla, here’s what Canada’s government told me of the six Canadians on board:

“The Government of Canada is not able to guarantee the safety of Canadian travelers, or to provide them with security and protection abroad.”
Screenshot of an email.

media@international.gc.ca writes:

Hi Rachel, We will get back to you asap. Thanks,

In a follow up:

Please see our response:
The Government of Canada is not able to guarantee the safety of Canadian travelers, or to provide them with security and protection abroad. The decision to travel is personal, and individuals are responsible for their own safety abroad. Global Affairs Canada (GAC) advises Canadians avoid all travel to Palestine due to the ongoing military operations in the Gaza Strip and the unpredictable security situation in the West Bank. More information is available on our travel advice webpage.
While the Goverment of Canada has no plans to accompany the flotilla, this does not in any way detract from Canada's position that humanitarian assistance into Gaza must be immediately scaled-up to address the catastrophic humanitarian situation. We continue to urge Israel to allow the immediate entry of UN-coordinated humanitarian assistance, via land crossings, into and throughout Gaza.
Since October 2023, Canada has committed more than $400 million in international assistance in response to the current crises in Palestine.
The immediate priority must be a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages, and a sustained influx in UN-led humanitarian aid. Canada is committed to continue

Oh, Jane Goodall. You were such a good'un.

We'll struggle to see your like again - but we promise to remember what you tried to teach us about extending curiosity and kindness beyond the selfish, inward-looking needs of our own species.

⚠️ Chinese researchers have invented bone glue that mimics how oysters stick to surfaces underwater.

The adhesive can reportedly repair orthopedic fractures in 2-3 minutes, even in blood-rich environments, and is bioabsorbable.

In any other country, if federal agents fired upon journalists when unprovoked — what would we call it?

If federal agents marched down streets demanding papers — what would we say?

Authoritarianism — let’s not pretend it’s something else when it happens in our American cities.

Autism is: fine, common, normal
The problem is a world where only some brains are valuable/able to succeed.
If we are concerned about Autism as a "problem," there are real tangible things we could be doing to make the world better for everyone instead of pretending we can prevent neurodiversity.
