Alabama has just executed Anthony Boyd tonight.

Lauren Gill explained so much that went wrong in his case and trial. Important to not look away.
Alabama plans to execute Anthony Boyd next week with nitrogen gas for a 1993 murder.

No physical evidence linked Boyd to the crime.

He was convicted solely on the testimony of a co-defendant who avoided the death penalty by testifying against him.

True: @zohranmamdani lives in 1 unit of rent-stabilized housing.

Also true: Andrew Cuomo oversaw the loss of 96,064 units of rent-stabilized housing. And killed NYC’s program helping people move out of shelter.

Leaders must show moral clarity. Andrew, time to move out. 🧵

I want any Californians who are hoping that we'll be insulated from the worst of authoritarianism to look into what's been going on in Huntington Beach for the last few years.
Our director Kanan was removed from the HB CC meeting tonight along with several others - and eventually, EVERYONE other than city staff. He was expressing outrage that the city allowed a video from a known Proud Boy to be aired, showing the names & addresses of people who signed ballot petitions.

An article I wrote because I thought it was importznt — state supreme courts are set to become even more important as a route for progressives to take, but that only works in the states where they haven’t veered to the right. Results at this level were different overall than in the presidential race
How did dozens of state supreme court races this fall affect the balance of power?

We broke it down state by state, guiding you through what took place this month—and what it will mean from abortion to voting rights.
How Supreme Court Elections Set the Stage for Coming Battles, from Voting to Abortion
More than before, progressives working to protect people’s rights will need state supreme courts to be hospitable to lawsuits that are increasingly dead on arrival at the federal level.

Literally none of the headlines about the woman burned alive on the subway include the fact that at least one NYPD officer looked on and did nothing. So a reminder:

- Cops feel zero obligation to protect you

- Press can't be trusted to hold cops accountable, they're effectively the police PR wing

NEW: North Carolina's GOP rushed through a lame-duck bill that guts the powers of incoming Democratic officials. The bill is a pot-pourri of major changes.

a BIG one: GOP just seized control of all of North Carolina's state and county election boards.

We break down what in the world happened:

gonna keep hammering this: there is no one database that:

-is easily accessed by a street level bureaceat

-has every or even most US citizens

-is at all verifiable with pictures and/or biometrics

It does not exist. American citizens *are* going go to get swept up in this and deported or killed.
they are going for it with mass deportation and i am extremely scared of what it’s gonna look like
The GOP is apparently planning on passing a reconciliation package with as much as $120 BILLION in border-related funding.

To put that in context, if you add up ever single Border Patrol budget from 1990 through 2024, adjusted for inflation, it's $121 billion. That's THIRTY-FOUR YEARS of funding.

The final House results have now landed as 220-215 for the GOP. That means the House majority came down to the 3 NC seats the GOP flipped thanks to its brand new gerrymander.

And that gerrymander hinged on NC's supreme court flipping in 2022.
