'Jenrick complained about visiting an area of Birmingham where he “didn’t see another white face” and said it was not the kind of country he wanted to live in.'
When you say things like that, we get scenes like this.

Spot on.

Given Kemi Badenoch has supposedly renounced Trussonomics, there’s an awful lot of multi-billion pound tax giveaways, predicated on *extremely* optimistic cuts and savings.

Almost as if she knows she’s never going to have to try to actually deliver any of this.

So Badenoch’s a Blair fan?

"We used to ring up our GP and get an appointment on the same day," says Kemi Badenoch. She does not add: we're all looking for the guy who did this!

Jenrick wants to judge a whole city by the colour and not the character of its residents.

Kemi Badneoch ends her speech by saying she stands for a country "where people are judged by the content of their character, not the colour of their skin"

'"Entrenched" wealth gaps mean that who your parents are - rather than how hard you work - has grown in importance in shaping living standards over a lifetime, the foundation said, with families who already have assets benefiting disproportionately from Britain's wealth boom.'

I mean really? Poland never left the EU so of course they are growing twice as fast as we are!
adambienkov.bsky.social
"15 years ago, Polish workers came here to find opportunity. Now Poland is growing twice as fast as we are," says Kemi Badenoch.

Any ideas what may have happened in the interim?

Make no mistake - not one defection to Reform is about policy or leadership. It’s about hanging on for all it’s worth to the prospect of a job. These defectors - no matter which party they are coming from - have all the fvcking morals and principles of an alley cat!

Politics latest: 20 Tory councillors defect to Reform - as Jenrick defends 'didn't see another white face' comment
20 Tory councillors have announced they are defecting to Reform today. It comes on day three of the Conservatives' annual conference in Manchester. Meanwhile, shadow justice secretary Robert Jenrick h...

When public servants make "private" comments they haven't realised that they are no longer private citizens.

Regardless of how private or thoughtfully you say racist things, they still remain racist and it’s right to be called out on them.

Shadow DEFRA SoS, Victoria Atkins MP, bemoans those trying to score points off Jenrick's "private" remarks: "These are conversation we must have thoughtfully away from the clickbait of social media that, sadly, is so often the case."

Heseltine at the Tory conf:

"Fascists of the 30s are back... Trump's language coincides with words here... The immigrant has replaced the Jew as the problem. We must make clear we will never have any part in the populist extremism of Farage... We don't need Trump's mouthpiece anywhere near No. 10.”

So, the journalist is the problem not what he said.
bremaininspain.com
This is what the far right do when confronted with their toxic hate .. they respond in feigned outrage repeating learned rhetoric while ensuring the person questioning them can’t get a word in edgeways so it looks like they’ve won

You see it from Trump, Farage, Tice, Tommy Robinson - It’s textbook

Wow. Robert Jenrick doubles down by branding a black journalist's questions "ridiculous" and saying that the problem is not his comments, but "journalists like you who pop up and try to knock me down", adding that "this is the reason why terrorist attacks happen". ~AA

We would have no worries as EU members.

He said those words so what else are the papers supposed to report?
rolandmcs.bsky.social
Dan thinks Jenrick's words have been outrageously misinterpreted. And yet other Tories like Mel Stride and Andy Street are distancing themselves from Jenrick.

There is nothing wrong with Pippa's summary.
bedsbabe.bsky.social
'But Jenrick's remarks show that we are, in 2025 in an even worse place. The comments are a symptom of a new cult of ethno-nationalism, imported from the USA and supercharged by bad actors in social media.'

How refreshing to read a politician who is not afraid to say what might cause DM readers outrage.

“You described Reform and other parties across Europe today as among the 'right wing equivalents of the fascists in the 1930s'. Why?”

“Because that’s what they are”

@vicderbyshire.bsky.social asks Lord Heseltine about remarks he made at Conservative Party Conference.

'It was vile and mendacious for the BBC to suggest that, when he talked about the colour of people’s skin, he was making a point about race. Perhaps he’d just been saying it would be a bad place to open a tanning salon.'
bedsbabe.bsky.social
'After the BBC had played that recording to Jenrick, he complained that they had cut off the final part where, after complaining about the lack of white faces in Handsworth, he explained that he wasn’t making a point about skin colour.'
bedsbabe.bsky.social
'Badenoch, characteristically, told everyone that you couldn’t believe anything you read in the Guardian. The only way that this would make her look stupid was if there was a recording of Jenrick saying the words, clear as a bell.'
bedsbabe.bsky.social
"I am actually in a very good position to know what I alone think" is what she should have said since I'm pretty sure black people don't all think the same way.

If only someone had warned us that leaving the world’s biggest single market might make us vulnerable to, you know, markets.

But we wanted to “take back control.”

Congratulations - we’ve taken it all the way back to the 1970s.
