If you're concerned about the ICE shooting in Minneapolis - where I happen to have a whole lot of college friends - please consider registering for this emergency response call. This horrible, needless violence needs to stop, and this should be a clarion call to all on the sidelines.

it makes me sad that this announcement is what comes up the most in a bluesky search on 'Mia hamant' Like men (athletes) cannot you even let anything be about women (athletes) ever. And even the outrage somehow gets more attention than an athlete's legacy, let alone her life and work
Also ... someone didn't read the room when they made their announcement of this with the Mia Hamant memorial going on
I've stopped following college sports as a whole except for UW sports. College sports are no longer what it used to be and it's so sad of what it's become. If Demond Williams left because "he just wanted to", then he's a prick. If he left b/c false promises ... shame on UW

Wow Vancouver is above NYC in transit rides per capita.
For perspective, all of these ridership numbers (including NYC) are very poor by international standards.

Tokyo 40M (1.081)
Buenos Airies 13.5M (0.985)
Paris 11M (0.887)

i have a buncha other calls & emails and faxes to deal with, and those other ones are going to get dealt with first because we know what needs doing without having to look anything up. the more you tell me up front, the less chance there is of my guessing wrong.

love,
your front desk auntie

President Donald Trump has added partisan and subjective plaques to a refashioned West Wing walkway he calls the Presidential Walk of Fame. The plaques include bombastic language, from “Sleepy Joe” Biden references to painting Republican icon Ronald Reagan as a fan of a young Trump.

A cultural moment - kids stayed home from school to watch GH the day of Luke and Laura’s wedding. Almost as many as skipped to see the Rolling Stones. It was inescapable

Shorelines shouldn’t be the exclusive playground of single-family homeowners. Dense urban mixed-use districts along shorelines are some of the best places in the world and they should be more common, not regulated out of existence by arbitrary land use policies.

And what exactly I am supporting when I buy these treats
I’ll be considering and learning about these histories and current practices. And thinking about where my personal moral responsibility starts as far as the effects my choices have on others and the planet.
I am sad because I love all of these things. Which I guess is why their histories are so troubled: we love them and want them a lot, to the point that we are willing to overlook moral issues and pay high prices in so many ways.

I know least about cocoa - it was introduced to Europe as a result of Spanish contact with indigenous people of the new world. So that’s totally different.

But I don’t know enough about coffee and tea and chocolate yet. Tea and coffee have been staples of trade for centuries, presumably with producers being on more equal footing with buyers or traders at some early point.

I’m thinking about some of the worst daily reminders of the greed and cruelty of colonialism: sugar, cocoa, coffee, tea. There are difficulties with the ways they are grown and bought now.
