Unfortunately, there is no shortage of people in power who have sought any excuse to abdicate responsibility to the public right of way – and, unfortunately, there are some who did not make good on their word for a program they claimed to support.

And so today, we did not win.

In that time, we have built not just a campaign, but a community that dared to believe that we too in Chicago can do what other cities around the world have done: to plow the sidewalks and treat pedestrians with the same dignity and respect we do drivers.

Almost 5 years ago, the #PlowTheSidewalks campaign was born out of frustration from a problem that we were determined had a solution – and one that unites us all in the winter.
