When I was a kid we used to talk to one another about what life would be like in ‘the year 2000’ (yes, exactly like the Conan bit) and 25 years in, not only have barely any of those things come to be, I think a lot of things have gotten worse by comparison.

Childhood me would be so disappointed.

I know there's a lot to keep up with but someone has ALREADY been killed by ICE in Chicago, its not a theoretical question, and folks are dying in ICE detention and being disappeared constantly, when you say "someone's gonna get killed" youre actually washing the blood from their hands 😘✌️

This is from a video on X, showing inside the Broadview ICE facility when Noem was in town on Fri.

For context, she's in the central room with 15 workstations setup to process detained individuals, whether they were arrested by immigration enforcement or at protests.

(FWIW we didn’t do the landscaping in at our place but I’ve been gradually pulling things out and putting new things in with the goal of mostly having native perennials in the ground and no grass. Which also, incidentally handle shade a lot better.)

Now I’m not saying this is a valid reason to block progress, just that it is a legitimate material change to the homes impacted by the change in shade.

Then consider if the house with new shade has solar. That’s an expensive investment they can just become worthless due to no fault of your own.

If you’re the kind of person who wants a single family home you’re sorta default invested in wanting either a yard or some crop of dirt to grow something.

And even a few hours less shade can destroy that.
