Congratulations to Prof. Phil Jones (UEA) for receiving an OBE for services to climatology!

Well deserved and long overdue recognition for his efforts over many decades to collate and analyse observational records of climatic changes.

We don’t talk enough about the importance of standard components in a greener economy. Engineers always say “but *our* design for battery/connector/module is 2% better than a standard one”, missing the point that it’s far worse for repair, reuse, recycling & minimising extra “stuff”. It’s maddening.
It’s time for THE charger.

Today, the USB-C becomes officially the common standard for charging new mobile electronic devices in the EU.

It means better-charging technology, reduced e-waste, and less fuss to find the chargers you need!

Excellent to see Labour getting rid of the arbitrary deadline to register all historic rights of way.

Landowning lobbyists had got the Tories to put in a deadline of 2031 to register 49,000 miles of lost paths.

Next step: a right of responsible access, please!

How Atlantic circulation will respond to warming has been an active topic of study for many decades.

Each new individual study should be taken within the larger context of that field. That’s why I follow @rahmstorf.bsky.social and I recommend his latest talk here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mm_Y...

Whoever controls production, and the surplus we produce, determines the shape and direction of our civilisation. If we do not have democratic control over our surplus then we can hardly say we live in a democracy.

Climate change intensified the series of five typhoons and a tropical storm that impacted the Philippines over 23 days in October and November.

Our study found that a greater number of typhoons landfalling in the country are reaching Category 3-5 levels as fossil fuel emissions heat the climate.

And these bishops who put the safety of children last, well behind their concern for the Church's reputation and fell feeling for their abusing colleagues, should absolutely not be in the House of Lords.
