Glenn Kubish, a person I deeply respect and who is so thoughtful, on why Darren's many hats made total sense. He was a doctor in all the ways.

Darren Markland was a Renaissance man with a moral compass truer than Polaris. While forever grateful to have called him friend, I mourn the loss his death represents to the world, and grieve the pain that his wife, sons & close friends are experiencing. That this lodestar is gone just plain *hurts*
Photograph daytime outdoors: A man wearing a cap and lime green PFD paddles a canoe in the North Saskatchewan River. In the foreground is a bicycle balanced across the canoe. In the background is a bridge crossing the river. This guy is slightly cloudy with patches of blue. Reflected in the water are hints of urban buildings. Screenshot of text. Text reads: "Darren did not want a formal funeral. If you are reading this and want to honour him the way he would have wanted, do what he did every day: go outside, ride your bike, enjoy nature and do something kind for a stranger."

Darren had an exceptional talent for egging people on, and convincing ordinary people to do extraordinary things.

His greatest trick was convincing everyone that he was just an ordinary guy too. And he wasn't. He was exceptional.

Join @yegbike.bsky.social tomorrow at Ezio park, 7-9.

Tired of being stuck in #traffic? If you live in one of the many parts of #edmonton that's under construction, you might be really frustrated right now.

There are alternative options to being traffic. Just take a look outside the windshield.

They are currently using the space that will become the bike lane as a car lane, since only one of the 2 bridges under construction is complete. In the meantime, there is no pedestrian or cycling access, and tbh, even as a bold vehicular cyclist, I would avoid taking the lane on that stretch.

It’s pretty wild that people decry things that they personally don’t utilize.

Imagine if I protested a new school being built, because I don’t have kids.

This is a reference to bike lanes. #YEGbike

On the plus side, the perimeter path is now routed to the upper gravel path along Hawrelak, meaning no more riding up & down those steep rutted sections near the river.
bikeedmonton.bsky.social
The path to the stairs is open, but other than that, it's just the perimeter path.
