Johnson is also surely aware that his progress on bike lanes will be a key benchmark for the many well-organized and often aggressive bike safety advocacy groups that have pushed for a “bike grid” throughout the city, some of whom pushed for a lower citywide speed limit that Johnson remained neutral on and aldermen in February voted down. Indeed, the mayor tipped his hat Tuesday at their push to redesign roads. “If there’s a group in Chicago that advocates on behalf of anything, it’s the people who are advocating for bike lanes and bikers,” he told reporters. “Your advocacy is paying dividends for the people of Chicago.” As he rode, Johnson said his Transportation Department is working toward “an ecosystem” of bike lanes that encourages cycling and makes people feel safe. He cited the need for a “strong grid.”

Our ebike palooza was a huge success! We got dozens of people test riding different ebikes and micromobility, from families to commuters to everyone in between, and even got @andrefor40th.bsky.social in an Urban Arrow!

We hope to see more of y'all out there on bikes out in Chicago 🥰

Plus, there'll be a 47th ward community bike ride starting at 6pm from the park, so you can do a quick test ride before joining their family-friendly ward tour! 🚲
A colorful flyer for 40th Ward e-bike-a-palooza! Located in Welles Park by the gazebo, Friday Sept. 12th, 5:30 - 7:30 PM. Where you can test ride ebikes*, learn how ebikes fit into your life, and get tips from Chicago's SAFE ambassadors. *ID or Driver's License Required for Test Rides And Join The 47th Ward Community Bike Ride! Alderman Martin and his team will be starting their community ride at 6pm at Lincoln & Sunnyside, with a family-friendly tour of the ward highlighting landmarks and projects.
