Somehow it feels fitting that the first day of snow this year might land on the day of this ride. Dr. Markland was a year round cyclist - so please bundle up, put on your studded tires, and join us Sunday as we honour him!

At least 15,000 people out yesterday at the rally to support striking Alberta teachers. It was incredible to get on a train packed with people wearing red for ed and see how many came to show they care about public schools.

And of course, in true teacher spirit, the band geeks were there.

Excellent message in @mommypedals.bsky.social's latest video: women's bike use is the 'indicator species' for the quality of a city's urban design and policies.

No women, no safety

Women on bikes are the indicator species of a city’s cycling health.

If you don’t see many of us, it’s not about lack of interest — it’s about safety.

(continued) @nicoleroach.bsky.social spoke at #RideOfTheFancyWomen🚴 by @bikeology.bsky.social ! “A bicycle represents liberation and freedom of movement for so many people around the world. However, women haven’t always been able to enjoy this freedom in the same way as men."
Space for Joy and Connection
A 2021 study in Canada found that twice as many men cycle than women. These issues are serious, devastating, and urgently need to be addressed. As we tackle them in our feminism and urbanism work, it’s also important to create space for joy and connection with one another.

Mobility is close to my heart–I work in this sector and have never owned a vehicle. I’ve navigated many cities, including–Hamilton, Toronto, Winnipeg, Maastricht, and now Edmonton-by walking, cycling, and taking public transit. Through this, I’ve experienced being: harassed, followed, and assaulted.
Swipe to read more. Unfortunately, these experiences are not unique. Many women, girls, and gender-diverse people, especially with intersecting and marginalized identities, experience much worse.

“A bicycle represents liberation and freedom of movement for so many people around the world. However, women haven’t always been able to enjoy this freedom in the same way as men.” Women in 1895 Europe were advised to avoid “bike face”, discouraging them from riding bikes and being sporty.

I know everyone is consumed with other news, but this is a big fucking deal: The Trump administration says that IUDs and the Pill are actually abortions.

Here's what USAID told the NYT about the $10m in birth control they plan to destroy.

We can look into it.
It's the Xitter & FB & Reddit & etc. dilemma all over again. Do we support a shitty platform by continuing to use it b/c that's where the critical mass of colleagues/family are, or do we go someplace that isn't (yet) enshittified?
BTW: Ghost is not free & *we* are penniless
