It ends:

"So, unfortunately, the only message that the public will receive from this “peaceful transfer of power” is: We surrender."
Democrats’ high road in peaceful transfer of power feels like a dead end

In her article “As Harris certifies her own loss, some see message about democracy” (Page A1, Jan. 4), Tal Kopan presents the view of top Democrats, including our own Senator Elizabeth Warren, that not making a stand to object to Donald Trump’s reelection is “the right thing to do,” that it shows “we still believe in following the Constitution.”

Maybe there once was a world where that could be true, but that is not this world.

Trump’s election to a second term is the culmination of the Jan 6, 2021, insurrection. Our Founders knew a Republic cannot hand power to an insurrectionist and expect to get it back when his turn is up; Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, which Warren did not mention, exists to prevent this scenario.

So, unfortunately, the only message that the public will receive from this “peaceful transfer of power” is: We surrender.

Yes. We all saw it happen on live TV. He participated, urged the mob to march on the capitol, and refused to lift a finger to protect Congress or his VP.

I'm not sure how. You seem to have paid zero attention to how these justices make decisions, which is all about what they personally want the laws to say.

The court paved the way to the Constitution's destruction. It is fundamentally corrupted, and we will not reach a healthier place unless we acknowledge that and make them pay.

Once a party that didn't accept its loss ends up in power, that's usually game over for democracy without eventual revolt.

Our state governments should be the organs to lead that revolt, not random citizens.

It's already been destroyed. We're just in the Wylie E. Coyote "don't look down" phase.

Vague statements but both IL and OR state officials suggest NORTHCOM isn't talking to states, at all, about other states' troops being inserted. In OR at least the CA troops are housed at an ORNG base so there must have been *some* coordination? 1/

incredibly, bleakly funny that trump is going after christopher wray, who spent his entire tenure at the fbi with his head down desperately trying to avoid trump's attention and did nothing to protect the bureau from trump's attacks www.wsj.com/politics/pol...
Other prosecutors are investigating former CIA director John Brennan, another prominent Trump critic, and former FBI director Christopher Wray, who was originally appointed by Trump but enraged conservatives who came to believe he had wielded the bureau’s powers against them. Former officials have received subpoenas in recent days in the Wray inquiry, according to a person with direct knowledge of the matter.

A bunch of folks have told me about this over the past few days. Patrick has good details here.

"It seems like it’s in an effort to get them to quit instead of firing them," a US official told me.

I'm off for the rest of the week (timing!) but I'll have a story on this shortly after I get back.

The thing about these phased peace plans is that the last one was phased too and then Netanyahu restarted the war after the initial rounds of hostage exchanges before the stage that would have required actual peace so…I am going to be holding my breath for a little while before any exhaling.

I wonder if they forced the actors to annunciate extra carefully to simplify the syncing to the animation. They sound a bit stilted. Might be the weakest aspect, otherwise the animation looks pretty great for being 24 years old.
