I really wish we'd stop calling them climate "skeptics" or "vaccine skeptics", if you jump off a cliff we don't call you a "gravity skeptic"

What if the true meaning of Christmas is supporting small businesses so the oligarchs have a very shitty season?

Saw a Shyamalan film that wasn't too bad. Or at least, segments of it were interesting. Trap is a fun take on the serial killer genre, with the plot centering around the killer as the main character. It follows him being lured to a concert that his daughter wants to go to.

I should really do some of these little review vignettes closer to when the film/show was released so that they're more topical but oh well. Maybe I'll get better about that in the future. Anyway! The Substance!
The Substance is so good. Like, this is not new information, but it's just phenomenal

Just a reminder before the “big announcement” today.

Autism was discovered in 1911 and the modern definition of Autism came in 1943.

Tylenol wasn’t widely used until the 1950s.

Anyone trying to tell you that Tylenol causes Autism isn’t someone that should be taken seriously.

Alexander Hamilton: Stop saying that

You know how gun nuts say gun control is like the Nazis disarming Jews to prevent them from fighting back vs genocide, well, this is actually that. This is the Trumpists trying to prevent self-defense by a tiny minority group while explicitly seeking that group's destruction. This is ACTUALLY that
This move by the Trump administration is an overtly discriminatory civil rights violation. Trans people have the same legal rights as other Americans — end of story. There are lots of good reasons to keep certain people from owning guns. Being trans isn't one of them. https://cnn.it/4niJnxG
Trump DOJ is looking at ways to ban transgender Americans from owning guns, sources say | CNN Politics
Senior Justice Department officials are weighing proposals to limit transgender people’s right to possess firearms, according to two officials familiar with the internal discussions.

Been putting this one off because it's hard to put into words my feelings on I Saw the TV Glow. Saw this movie eight months ago and I'm still not sure where it sits with me. It's an eerie, dream-like slow burn of a horror film that relishes in the use of liminal spaces, both physical and not.

there's an episode of The Simpsons where Marge tries to get a violent cartoon pulled from the airwaves, only to discover that the people backing her aren't going to stop at just the art that *she* doesn't like, and that supporting artistic freedom means accepting discomfort.

It aired in 1990.

Oops, missed some days. That's okay, just gotta jump back in! K-pop Demon Hunters definitely lives up to the hype. Vibrant and expressive animation, with a fantastic sound track. I'm still humming the songs and week later, even did some other writing with This Is What It Sounds like on loop.

Colbert will be all right, maybe even better off. The world's his oyster and I'm sure MSNBC and Netflix will come calling. He could stand up the biggest late night YouTube channel in days. But they are just torching the Late Show, an institution, solely to appease a dictator. And that fucking sucks.

As usual, I'm behind on everything, but I finally saw Nimona. Absolutely loved it. The animation is colorful and wild, the main characters are fleshed out and a delight to watch, and the central message is both incredibly relevant and deeply impactful. Just a great viewing experience

Almost missed a day (shush it's not tomorrow until I fall asleep, i don't care what time it is). Heart Eyes was an absolute delight. Maybe it's because I'm a sucker for a well-written romance, but I loved this movie. Mostly because of the two main characters and their chemistry

Hell of a Summer is the feature length directorial debut for Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk, and for a first foray it's not bad! The characters mostly enjoyable, I had a few genuine laughs, it was a silly little slasher that doesn't take itself too seriously

Death of a Unicorn is exactly as advertised: a unicorn is killed, it's parents murder everyone involved. If you expect anything more than that, you'll be disappointed. That said I don't think it's really trying to be much else, nor does it have to. It's fun, it's over the top, I had a blast watching

Despite being released 14 years after the last entry in the series, Final Destination: Bloodlines is pretty good. Not perfect, but enjoyable. A number of the characters are actually quite likable, and their actions make sense about 70% of the time. Which is pretty good by final destination standards

Finally got around to seeing Operation Condor, the second of Jackie Chan's Asian Hawk films. As with the first film (and most of Jackie's films during the 80s and 90s), the strength lies within the elaborate fight choreography and the physical comedy, rather than the plot or characters.
