100%

We have to stop burning stuff. We already know how to do it with wind, sun, and batteries. Anything else is just, well, smoke. Lots of smoke. No mirrors.
So, below is EU President von der Leyen saying that the EU is "not fighting fossil fuels, only emissions."

And here is the Saudi envoy to COP30 saying exactly the same thing.

I'm telling you: climate politics are unified around the lie that we can keep fossil fuels & still deal w climate anyway.

Clean, super-cheap, ag-friendly, oiligarch-free, low resource energy is really exciting.

Hey, MB Hydro! Read this before building your $3B LNG burning backup plant.

I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

Smith is doing her best to undermine everything that is good in our country. Adding that to her pro-Trump sympathies, the Queen of Measles can now be described as Canada's Benedict Arnold.

Also eating away at Canada's pipeline dreams. Oil and LNG, especially tar sand oil, is going to not have the profit in it to justify a long term capital cost of billions of dollars.

Europe's electricity system is changing rapidly and often in places that don't make the headlines.

Look at Estonia - not that long ago and fossil fuels dominated around 90% of electricity generation.

Today solar and wind eat more and more into the share of fossil fuel-generated electricity.

Connecting some dots here...

- 80+ countries call for a roadmap to phase out fossil fuels.
- Many of which are building (Chinese-made) solar capacity.
- Which is rapidly dropping in price and improving in efficiency.
- Rendering our expensive oil a financial loser.

Re-upping this 🧵 from when Ksi Lisims LNG was given enviro approval.

NOTE: Downstream emissions from Ksi Lisims will be roughly equivalent to 5% of Canada's TOTAL domestic GHG emissions. This is a carbon bomb - a willful act of arson.

Mark Carney simply does not get the climate emergency... 👇
This Ksi Lisims LNG approval is terrible news.

"It's hard to believe that we're moving ahead in B.C. with climate-destroying LNG projects in the midst of a climate crisis," said Tara Marsden, sustainability director for the Gitanyow hereditary chiefs.

As someone who lives in rural MB, but grew up in Winnipeg (small and not very industrial), it has become increasingly obvious to me how dirty the city's air is. You can seen the brownish cloud hanging over it. Slashing taxes, killing healthcare, to enrich oiligarchs is killing us.

Essential research shows that particulate pollution—generated from motor fuels exhaust, tire wear, wildfires, factories, etc—is associated with dementia. More evidence that it is in the interest of public health to reduce pollution. (Gift link)

Watching Carney's APEC CEO Summit talking about how Canada would vastly increase (more than doubling) our LNG exports by 2040 was distressing.

The costs of fossil fuel damage to climate and health are increasing. Ignoring that is bad economics.

We can find suitable land with sunlight, water, and nutrients to grow plants, wait years to harvest the biomass and burn it for energy, hope to capture the CO₂ with carbon capture and storage technology, and find a suitable spot to bury the CO₂ permanently.

OR we can use solar panels.

I'd argue there is no "economic advantage" in a) contributing to planet destroying emissions, b) giving away billions in subsidies to a planet-destroying product, and c) investing in selling an end-of-life product.

There is no economy without a sustainable environment.
