Relatedly, it's worth highlighting how outrageous it is that when Trump threatens to punish New York if it elects Mamdani, Cuomo's own impulse is to try to use that to score cheap political points against Mamdani, rather than to call out Trump for the threats. He's all opportunism, all the time.
More Democrats should get more combative with the media, in particular by calling out questions that have an unspoken premise of "GOP voters are realer Americans than you," or in this case, "the president can break the law if voters in a city choose a mayor according to their own preferences."
In the 1st question of his brief interview with Mamdani. Anderson Cooper reports Trump’s strongman threats to punish NYC if the Mayoral candidate is elected, as if he gets to select where funding goes according to his whims, & then asks whether voters will find it “worth the hassle” to vote for him.

Or ICE could just fund the Klan directly.

The shutdown is ultimately a legislative negotiation about a budget.
Hard to resolve it when the controlling party in one part of Congress refuses to negotiate, will not re-open the House, is not in DC.

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) actually told the press that Democrats would be the ones hurt most by losing SNAP.

To be fair, since he lives in Florida instead of the state he represents, maybe he doesn’t realize 752,000 Alabamians rely on SNAP—14.6% of the state’s population.

ICE is an apparatus for the state murder of undesirables without due process.
The Trump admin has been “deadlier for ICE detainees than COVID-19 pandemic.”

“The families of some of the deceased have denounced the fact that the victims had no prior condition that would have predicted a tragic end.”
🕯️ This #DíaDeLosMuertos, we remember those who should still be with us.

At least 22 people have died in ICE custody this year, the deadliest year in 20 years. As families grieve and call for answers, communities across the country are building ofrendas to honor them.

In this New York newsroom, SNAP still means what their obnoxious Millennial colleagues did at an all-hands in 2020. But they do know this: Food stamps are largely ceremonial since they aren’t accepted at Zabar’s or Citarella.

Every time you see a story of comically transparent corruption among Trump's immediate family, a cold shiver should shoot through you.

Trump will *never* accede to a situation where accountability for his or his family's ill-gotten gains is possible. Dictatorship to protect corruption is the agenda
This is exactly right, with one addition to the end:

Trump wants to have the unconstrained ability to use lethal militarized force against Americans to make sure he never has to give up power—so that the corrupt enrichment & rank criminality of him, his family, & his cronies goes forever unpunished
I've given my new Senator a lot of shit on here. But I don't think anyone with power has laid out the stakes of what we're facing as clearly as she does right here.

And if she's saying this, it's because she feels she must.
