Once again as an adoptee I am BEGGING people to read Relinquished by Gretchen Sisson. Being anti-adoption in its current form is actually an essential part of any leftist worldview. Human beings are not commodities and should not have their identities legally sealed off from them permanently. 🥚
The anti-abortion movement constantly tells us that women can "just choose adoption" if they don't want to have a baby. And to a lot of people that sounds reasonable. Except... adoption is often wrenching for birth mothers, and women are often coerced into it.

The fact that the suicide rate among adoptees is so high, should tell you something is very wrong with the industry.
Remembering Tam on the anniversary of her death. She was taken from everything she knew, her people, her language, her culture, her homeland. Imagine that pain left unacknowledged. Despite the controversy of how Tam took her life the fact is she ended her pain. This is her truth.

We should be helping mothers, not encouraging this.The lifelong trauma for both mother and child will be immense and who knows if the mother was coerced, forced, threatened to do this, or if she was even the one who placed her baby in the box. We’ve been hearing that the federal workers purge has also hit the wild Mustang holding areas and adoption programs hard. Project 2025 calls for the euthanasia of all wild Mustangs. I can’t imagine this really happening, but I think we need answers now.

I agree @karmabloo.bsky.social We love a feel good fairy-tale, but what about the voices of adoptees who have experienced trauma and don’t have a voice? Don’t their stories matter? Don’t they deserve to be heard? Why are suicide rates so high among adoptees? We need to talk about this.
If being placed for adoption makes a baby so lucky then why are adoptees 4x more likely to attempt suicide? Is life long trauma some sort of luck?
How could anyone want to deny this child such love. I see this and think, that’s the luckiest baby ever.
