Bessent pushes Albertan independence from Canada: "Albertans are very independent people. There's a rumor they may have a referendum on whether they want to stay in Canada or not. People are talking. People want sovereignty. They want what the US has got."

I wonder how often the scrappy, hard-bitten French resisters to the original, literal Nazi occupation of WWII were interrupted in mid-rant about Nazi atrocities by point-scoring pedants saying "um, actually WE weren't exactly angels in Indochina..."

That is a great analogy and I think we should coin that specific kind of leftist as Political Calvinists to identify they don't have anything to say worth listening to.

The sneering condescension (you're too small-brained to read a book) is truly what takes my reaction to the skeet from "I disagree with this take and am tired of it" to "fuck you." As if the people waving American flags through clouds of tear gas don't know what the Trail of Tears is.

I fear my tipping point into madness is "Thus is un-American" posts in response to ICE terrorizing immigrants. I beg you to open Wikipedia (I would say a book but let's start small) and read up on The Trail of Tears, Fugitive Slave Catchers, Japanese internment, Indian Boarding schools & Jim Crow

At a purely cynical level the same Bluesky Leftists that scream and wail about the Trail of Tears think the only thing Stalin did wrong with his deportations was not shooting the people he deported as soon as he let them out of the train. They abhor prison labor and adore the Gulag.

People who say this are clearly speaking aspirationally about a shared American creed they hold dear. “Have you heard of the Trail of Tears?” is not a very helpful response, because they probably have and the priority right now is moral opposition to fascism and not fake-educating each other.

i like how this person thinks this is an own instead of the fact that Japanese-Americans believed in America more than the fucking idiots that interned them

The American position is that climate change is a Chinese hoax which will expand Greenland's strategic importance for homeland defense and that is why U.S. allies who are too unwilling to stand up to evil should stop standing up to evil and cede their territory to protect their territory.

final nail in the stop the war coalition/yorp brand of "left internationalist" politics should be that type's dead silence on American threats against Greenland. turns out they have nothing to say when the peacenik "sit helpless and do nothing" is the pro-American answer

Im a red state Democrat from a state with one of the most propagandized GOP parties so believe me when I tell you most of these Republicans in my state are abhorrent individuals and I wish to make them pay for what they have done
nothing short of total victory will suffice
our country would be a lot better if people realized Republican voters in Red states simply like their states being backwards, approve of Republicans keeping it that way, and would rather bomb churches than give healthcare to a single brown person
