Blue state resident looking for comfort in a world gone mad. I cook, read, walk and sometimes cry. Puzzles are my meditation.

Very interested in how to effectively dismantle the trends toward kleptocracy and autocracy.

My understanding is that food donations are great, but the best bang for everyone's buck is to just give money to food banks. They usually have negotiated relationships where they can get the best prices and thus the most food.

🧵This horrific story is being reported all over Latin America, but not the US.

Randall Gamboa, a Costa Rican, was deported from the US in such a critical health condition it required an ambulance flight.

NEW: Trump's OMB is still controlling agency spending in secret despite a court order requiring transparency—and they're doing it by abusing footnotes.

Today, we asked the Court to ensure that OMB makes all of this information public.
OMB’s latest effort to conceal spending data - CREW | Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington
OMB should not be doling out funds behind closed doors and must make public the contents of legally binding spend plans that apportion fund. Full transparency is critical for effective oversight.

Those trying to understand the tariffs as economic policy are dangerously naive.

No, the tariffs are a tool to collapse our democracy. A means to compel loyalty from every business that will need to petition Trump for relief.

Nancy Mace is an excellent example of what happens to a plausibly sane member of the House from a competitive district after being thrown into a gerrymandered district and needing a new sphere of position-taking.
