At the start of 2025, some people questioned whether the resistance was dead. They doubted that Trump’s authoritarian agenda would be met with defiance and backlash.

Apparently Bluesky is seeing a spike in new registrations due to a new X feature that allows users to edit publicly posted images via AI, and artists are pissed off.

Good.

For Bluesky to thrive, we need many different communities to use it as their base of social media operations.
And because @bskycheck.com resets every day at 2am ET, that means it is possible that Bluesky gets 85,000 new signups in a 24-hour period

Here are my initial set of ratings for Texas's state legislative elections next year.

In the House, the Dems have to defend several Trump-won/majority-Hispanic seats, but they have some solid pickup opportunities in the suburbs. No Senate seat is competitive for now.

Here are my first ratings for next year's state legislative elections in North Carolina.

The Democrats are looking to further escape superminority status in the legislature by trying to flip a few seats in the Senate and knock off some conservadems in primaries in the House.

Finally a ruling from this Supreme Court that makes clear what all patriotic Americans know:

No Kings.
Supreme Court hands Trump a major defeat on National Guard deployment
The Supreme Court holds that the president’s authority to deploy the National Guard for law enforcement purposes likely only applies in “exceptional” circumstances.

It’s possible that Taylor Swift solved the masculinity crisis but even if she didn’t, the end of this video had me 🥹😭
In 2023 I became obsessed with videos of dads in cargo shortswaiting in parking lots during Taylor Swift's Eras Tour. So when she came to town, I grabbed a camera and headed down to talk to them. I thought it'd be funny. It turned out to be something else entirely.

It's special election night in South Carolina! We've got a special State House election lined up in #HD88, a Trump+35 seat in suburban Columbia.

Should be an easy Republican hold, but given how this seat became open (look up RJ May), we might see a Dem overperformance.

A good reminder that the things often labeled as ‘distractions’ can help chip away at Trump’s approval rating, which in turn could hamper GOP efforts in the 2026 elections.

Political death by a thousand cuts.
So we may have found the single most unpopular thing Trump has done in 2025 - the vainglorious renaming of the Kennedy Center after himself (via Economist/YouGov):

18% approve, 66% disapprove

Apparently part of the briefly posted tranche of Epstein documents tonight is a disturbing letter - purportedly from Jeffrey Epstein to Larry Nassar days before Epstein’s death in 2019 - in which Epstein says ‘Our President also shares our love of nubile young girls’.

Any Democrat looking to win a primary or a general election in 2026 needs to have a robust presence on Bluesky.

They can still communicate via X, too. It doesn’t have to be either/or.

But driving traffic to Bluesky also helps establish this platform as THE hub of Democratic activism.
All I want for Christmas is Democrats for start driving their social media traffic to their Bluesky posts, not to Twitter.

Folks are welcome to post on Twitter/X but we should not be driving traffic there. Am amazed this remains a common tactic.
