It’s almost like green energy is the only way forward and a handful of oil barons are doing everything in their power to keep that from happening so they can get even richer at the cost of literally everything else in the world.
Wall Street’s biggest banks made more money financing green projects than they did from working with fossil fuel companies for a fourth straight year, even as they faced ongoing pressure to pull back from the business

Chugach received boatloads of scathing criticism from their members over the fact that they’re automatically including everyone in the program and requiring you to opt out if you don’t want to participate.

I suspect this is their way of withdrawing the idea while trying to save face.

The AFL-CIO should start throwing some money towards labor journalism. If it was done right (i.e. with them accepting that journalists must have full editorial control over what’s published, whether or not union leaders like what they have to say) it could really have such a hugely positive impact

You have never seen someone with so much power pretend to be so helpless and concerned than Sen. Lisa Murkowski, and yes, I am including all current Republicans in that analysis.

Chena Ridge Road is not yet included on this Fairbanks map. I know Chena Ridge was mostly homesteaded in the ’50s.

@chenaridge.bsky.social Do you know whether the road existed in 1952?
1952 USGS map detail of Fairbanks area. The Weeks Field airstrip is still present, probably for around the last time. Note how far the new airport was from Fairbanks proper then. #alaskahistory #alaska

I am not going to compromise my values. I am not going to speak in platitudes or shy away from the truth. And I certainly am not going to throw immigrants or trans kids under the bus because some consultant told me it polls really well with Republicans.

Surprise surprise 🙄
A report published by the Alaska Department of Revenue last month says the state treasury will benefit far less from the new Willow oil project than previously estimated. (via @alaskabeacon.com)
New estimate projects 50% less Alaska state revenue from proposed Willow oil project
Some state officials have pinned their hopes on new oil revenue as a solution to the state’s ongoing budget woes.

In the past when I sat down to write about Israel, I’ve had a moment where I take a deep breath and accept that, as a Jewish woman, it’s going to be difficult. This time, there was no such moment.

I wrote about the intentional starvation of Gaza by Israel/US, and the moral imperative to say enough:
Gaza is starving
Palestinians seeking food are being killed by the IDF. It's time for the entire world to say enough.

This is like a Eurail pass for Southeast Alaska. It could be marketed in combination with the Alaska Long Trail to backpacking travelers. What an amazing way to spend a summer!
I think that there was once an off-season pass. For quite a while, there was a round-trip ticket from Bellingham to Skagway (or maybe it was earlier, so Seattle to Skagway) that would allow walk-on passengers to simply get on and/or get off within a month.
