Today I got called out by my therapist for referring to my body as a "meat suit."

Apparently, "that's depersonalization" & "we need to talk more about this."

Listen. I am just a pile of tangled neurons piloting this dilapidated rig of meat & bones. Don't yell at me.

when big storms hit rural alaska communities, i struggle to sleep until it passes and we get word that they’re safe

"our greatest fear is a storm will hit shaktoolik in the middle of the night and, when we pick up the phone in the morning the line is dead, and the whole community is wiped out."

Important context for out-of-state folks: all of these communities are off the road system. Think about all the struggles communities face to evac in more typical situations when you can drive some place safe, and then imagine there's no road and no flights. That's what we're talking about here.

The city of Kotzebue is under mandatory evacuation orders. That's as the community prepares for flooding the National Weather Service warns could be worse than last year's, which led to dozens of evacuations and two families losing their homes.
Mandatory evacuations ordered in Kotzebue as flooding from coastal storm begins
Water could rise as much as 10 feet above the high tide line, according the National Weather Service.

Communities all over Alaska are clearly saying they are done with divisive rhetoric focused on hateful non-issues that prevent progress in their own backyard.

If you want to win your elections here in AK, drop the rightwing bullshit & focus on real issues faced by real neighbors.

Jim Cooper is leading in the race for Palmer mayor. Cooper has a history of progressive outlooks & has expressed support for LGBTQ people.

And folks in Kenai are choosing leadership with common sense rather than MAGA nonsense by voting for Henry Knackstedt over Alex Douthit for mayor.

In the Fairbanks assembly race, Garrett Armstrong & Patrick Roach are on track to win seats. Both strong progressive candidates with a record of supporting the LGBTQ community.

Fairbanks incumbent mayor, David Pruhs lost reelection to Mindy O'Neall. Pruhs is a notable bigot who has made a career of homophobia & transphobia. Mindy on the other hand, is a longtime labor organizer who ran a platform based in her politics of respect & progress.

Local election season in Alaska & early results show more evidence that pro-lgbtq candidates more likely to win their races than bigoted ones.

If you work in political consulting, you need to change your strategies. Throwing queer & trans people under the bus to "appeal to moderates" isn't winning.

Oh good, not just me then. I totally made the same assumptions lol

Johnson & McClain visibly laughing at a statement Trump made about imprisoning the mayor of Chicago & governor of Illinois.

Yes, it's absurd (& more than a little horrifying) that the president would publicly declare that.

However, even GOP leadership is laughing at him for it. Play that part up.

Q: Do you agree that the mayor of Chicago and governor of Illinois should be in prison?

MIKE JOHNSON: Should they be in prison? I'm not the attorney general. I'm not following the day to day on that

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio insisted “no one has died” as a result of U.S. foreign aid cuts. In Myanmar, the grieving father of a 2-year-old boy who died after their food rations were cut calls such claims a lie.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has repeatedly said “no one has died" because of his government’s decision to gut its foreign aid program.

Um, ICE just coldly shot an unarmed PRIEST in the head w a pepper ball when he (and everyone around him) clearly posed no threat.

For the crime of … complaining about government policy.

I don’t just want you to pay attention to Chicago because I want you to understand our plight. I want you to see how hard people are fighting and know wtf you’re made of. We’re not just fighting for this place. This is for all of us.

For every book purchased from this reading list, we will be sending a book to someone who is incarcerated.

Republican standard tactic for rewriting a narrative: just repeat the lie regardless of whether anyone actually believes it.
jbendery.bsky.social
"Repetition apparently is the key to this," Speaker Mike Johnson says of messaging about the government shutdown, which is happening as Republicans control all of government: the House, the Senate and the White House.

"This is not a Republican shutdown. It is a Schumer-Democrat shutdown."

This whole “don’t take the bait” narrative being spun up by the resist account networks is pure counter insurgency. If fascists are trying to do violence against you and your community by all means protect yourself in any way you can. Do not comply in advance and “do nothing” in the face of fascism.
