the usual story. rich guy wants to punish universities for not clamping down on pro-palestinian protests and for doing too much to recruit minorities. at base these guys want the top tier of american universities to become, once more, safe-spaces for their dunderheaded failsons

When I see people online, even in jest, suggest that people living in Republican-controlled states should be abandoned because of their politicians, I feel a deep heartache. New York CREATED Donald Trump and none of y’all are ever talk about it the way you disparage Alabama or Mississippi.

Hi! We're putting a panel together for LASA 2026 on minerals and metals in Latin American history. So, if you do mining history, environmental history, riparian/waterway history, or history of science, get in contact!

I know it’s all bad faith bs BUT I keep thinking about how the whole “reason” we apparently can’t pass any effective gun control legislation to prevent mass shootings is the idea that we need an armed populace in case the federal government decides to invade our cities and towns.

Like??????????

you'd think the governor of illinois basically going "we're being invaded by an authoritarian" would be something you'd see real easy on the front page of most everything an hour later

Day 3 of phase 1 SEPTA reduction and my bus had to stop letting people on only 15 blocks into its route. So many people left waiting for the next bus that will be just as overcrowded. And this is just the beginning. #SaveSEPTA

University of Chicago being gutted because of insane debt loads and wasting money on crypto is incredibly ironic after what their school of economics put the global south through. Behind, the neoliberal boomerang.

The University of Chicago has a debt of over $6 billion, against an endowment of $10 billion. They played with crypto. That's more than irresponsible.

Their board of trustees contains a surprising number of people regarded as financial geniuses.

I see the 11th Global Digital Humanities Symposium CFP is out for the April conference, & they're offering both virtual + in-person (Michigan State & Universidad de Monterrey in México) options. CFPs in English & Spanish. I submitted something—will blog it post-review.
