Our radar is picking up birds 🐦roosting this morning denoted by light blue circles in eastern Ohio. This is common in the mid to late summer.

Check out our latest review paper 📝 Integrating AI models into ecological research workflows: The case of terrestrial bioacoustics 🌍 🧪 👇

buff.ly/ZKXk23E
An overview of the six sequential stages of the sensors + AI pipeline. The first tier highlights data acquisition stages 1–3: Selecting sensor hardware, deploying sensors and aggregating and uploading data. The second tier highlights data analysis stages 4–5: Using AI and statistics to analyse the data. The top tier highlights stage 6: Insights about ecological phenomena. Each stage builds successively on the ones below it within the context of a single research project. Ecological questions inform the methodology for the bottom tiers of the pyramid, which ultimately determine the scientific insights the pipeline can produce, which themselves inform future ecological questions.

I made a collection of bird ornaments, each one representing a species we can spot from our home, at the public pond out front and the birds in our backyard. I created them to celebrate this place where I finally feel at home and to enjoy making something crafty just for me again. :D

HEY!!!!

I’m going to be at AOS in St. Louis presenting my first first-author publication, comparing Merlin Sound ID to point counters in field surveys :) you should come see my talk in Methods & Models 3 on Thursday @ 10:30!

Had a blast at #WOS2025 talking birds and catching up with great people. But my favorite part was seeing superstar Oswego undergrad Griffin Kutny mixing it up at his first conference! He had great things to say about the welcoming atmosphere at @wilsonornithsoc.bsky.social and the Flocks project.

@evornithology.bsky.social Talks about a (social media inspired) study on mating preferences in Black Terns. Males are subtly, but still significantly, darker than females - and the birds can tell the difference! More black/saturated birds also pair with more gray/unsaturated birds #WOS2025

Read this paper so Andrew’s endless hours driving this demon chimera through the hole-filled prairie are appreciated!

So excited to share this paper, lead-authored by newly-minted Dr. Andrew Dreelin from my lab and @andyjboyce.bsky.social's with you all! 🧪

There's this paradox about prairie dog towns - many birds seem to love them, but they attract a lot of predators.
