I grew up going to Zabar's. So many of my childhood memories center around the best lox in NYC (which is saying something). With Saul Zabar's passing today, the Upper West Side has lost a legend who turned his parent's humble store into a culinary institution.

Any other lyrics— don’t even try chronic town murmur or reckoning btw— just form vowels and syllables, and mean it

They’re all over Berkeley as well. I counted at least three on my block, all from the 1910s and 1920s.

The only other place I’ve noticed them to be as plentiful was when we lived in Providence, though those were all brass plaques set into the concrete (presumably to withstand the weather).
brass marker set in concrete: R.I. Paving and Granolithic Co, Providence R.I. brass marker in the shape of a B, set in concrete, with words inside: Newton D Benson, Providence R.I. brass marker set in concrete, shaped like a shield with stars at the top and an eagle at the bottom, with the words: Built by Works Progress Administration, 1935–1939 brass marker set in concrete: Laid by A. It seems to me an important aspect of the sidelining of Stephen Colbert by the pressures of this regime is not only to restrain his political views and criticisms, but also to silence one of the very few mass media personalities occasionally giving voice to actual Christian theology

True but let’s also be clear: PBS and NPR are *not* dead. The cuts hurt—and will hurt a lot of people, mostly Trump voters, since small local stations depend on federal funds more than the national apparatus and big city stations.

But public media is ALIVE—and needs your support more than ever.

It's fucked up that they voted to kill PBS this morning and it didn't even make it to the end of the day as the biggest story about the government fucking with the media

i worked hard and spent years paying off my bees, AND NOW THIS?

Right-wing columnist Charles Gasparino complains that Zohran Mamdani wants to hand out "free bees"
Tweet from Charles Gasparino:

I keep hearing that young people are propelling Mamdani because the city is so unaffordable.
The real question is whether young people should want to start their career here particularly by living in Manhattan. There are much more affordable places w good paying jobs, decent living standards and low crime. Mamdani handing out free bees will just make the place less affordable and Miami and Dallas more appealing
