A massive strike is one thing ✊

A strike on this scale is a massive vote of no confidence in this government. And everyone voting to strike knows that. ✊✊✊

Indeed it is.
For those following along at home, youth unemployment is higher in rural areas (eg Northland) and wildly skewed by ethnicity, eg unemployment rates for Pacific youth est 20%. Our M & P youth deserve better.
Again, we need a conversation abt this.

Worth noting that we only see decent job growth for young kiwis when the economy is running hot - that's when employers give less experienced people a chance.
RBNZ respond to hotness by hiking interest rates to slow the economy down. Youth unemployment is a feature of our economic model, not a bug.

The world doesn't owe our children a living? Yes we do? Isn't that the whole point? I don't know many parents that wouldn't wish that for their kids, why is it different because they're not YOUR kids? Such an incredibly telling statement, really.

The New Zealand government’s underfunding of healthcare is killing people everyday & Doctors are saying it everyday and being largely ignored. Privatisation will make this situation worse. #nzpol
Christchurch ED doctor Dominic Fleischer told News patients were dying because of substandard care, and the situation was hurting staff and those they were treating.
"Patients are dying now really because of substandard care. Patients dying in the waiting room and corridors or who leave and literally drop dead in the car park. So that's all happened. That's atrocious care at some stage and it hurts the staff when things like that happen.

I am 100% behind nurses and hospitals getting funded more, but what everyone is suffering through now is what we Māori have suffered through since the beginning because of medical racism. This is why the Māori health authority is needed.

Austerity is colonialism turned inward. #nzpol
A two-panel meme featuring Edd from the cartoon Ed, Edd n Eddy. In the first panel, the character holds up a large red book titled “FACTS.” In the second panel, the character smiles smugly while pointing to a page in the book. The page reads: “THE HEALTHCARE CRISIS THAT EVERYONE IS SUFFERING THROUGH UNDER NACT — WHERE PEOPLE ARE TURNED AWAY AND DYING IS WHAT MĀORI EXPERIENCE GOING THROUGH WITH THE HEALTH SYSTEM IN GENERAL, AND THAT’S WHY MĀORI LIFE EXPECTANCY IS SO LOW.”

Palestinian Bedouin Women with deq and Māori Women with moko kauae. (Both are cultural facial markings) #nzpol #Palestine #Māori #newzealand
A collage of four elderly women with traditional facial tattoos. The woman in the top left and the woman in the bottom right are Māori, wearing moko kauae — chin tattoos signifying identity and heritage. The woman in the top right and the woman in the bottom left are Palestinian Bedouin, wearing deq tattoos — traditional dot and line markings on the chin and cheeks. The women wear dark clothing or headscarves, and their deeply lined faces reflect age and resilience. The photos, in both black-and-white and color, highlight the cultural significance of these markings across two different Indigenous traditions

Rather than pretend $20m is going to make any difference (it represents 0.06% of health funding), the Minister could recognise the government underfunded health to begin with. He could pay nurses and doctors properly - rather than fight them.

Finally, doctors and nurses NEVER want to strike. That is the opposite of their thing. Everything in our clinics and hospitals is oriented around patient care and patient wellbeing. All of it. Those strategy things you get in corporates? Imagine if your strategy is "best care for human beings".

The thing about taniwha is that they are kaitiaki (guardians) and serve to communicate ancestral knowledge about hidden dangers. To ignore them is to ignore advice of those who have been there, done that and suffered the consequences. Silly to look all that in the eye and go against it anyway.

I'm big mad about the media coverage of the citizenship pathways for tangata whenua born overseas story not asking the Green Party who ARE THE PARTY THAT HAVE AN ACTUAL, SPECIFIC POLICY ABOUT THIS.

Discworld QOTD, from Guards! Guards!
They avoided one another's faces, for fear of what they might see mirrored there. Each man thought: one of the others is bound to say something soon, some protest, and then I'll murmur agreement, not actually say anything, I'm not stupid as that, but definitely murmur very firmly, so that the others will be in no doubt that I thoroughly disapprove, because at a time like this it behooves all decent men to nearly stand up and be almost heard...
No one said anything. The cowards, thought each man.
