I've commented on this before. There's been a lot of interest in the rising incidence of colo-rectal cancer in young adults in many countries. This figure is a plot of incidence and mortality rates in England over time relative to a baseline rate in 1974. I last showed it with data to 2021. 1/n

Two former Wells Fargo executives were fined $8.5M by the Biden administration for covering up the bank's infamous fake account scandal.

Trump just slashed those fines to a paltry $150,000 after Wells Fargo gave $1M to his inauguration.

See how this works?

Everyone is freaking out about Hegseth for legitimate reasons & he must resign.
But as a physician I can promise you, RFK Jr is an equal or greater threat than Hegseth.
He can’t separate fact from fiction.
He will kill millions.

This is important for scientists to understand. It may feel difficult now, but we can push on public opinion and we CAN win.

Keep pushing, get out the word about Trump attacks on NIH and medical cures. And one day the dam will crack and Trump will be finished.

You must watch the John Oliver show from last night about NIH.

Oliver rarely breaks his comedy routine but he did about NIH, RFK, and HHS.

Oliver stared the camera down after 30 minutes and just said with a grimace:
“RFK needs to go, now. By impeachment if necessary.” 1/

69M married women could lose their voting rights if the SAVE Act is passed. Transgender individuals too.

Why? Absent a valid passport, you must present a birth certificate *with the same name as your registration* to be registered.

This is insane!

🧪 More research into women's health is badly needed, #NIH had been moving more in this direction, and the Trump/Musk cuts have harmed this effort.
I’m so glad USA Today covered adenomyosis. I struggled with this “silent disease” for decades. It caused my infertility and because I had go on hormonal birth control (which contributed to my DVTs) it nearly killed me. We need better treatments, even as Trump/DOGE is killing uterine health research.

Jay Bhattacharya spent the pandemic railing against the medical establishment and making impossible demands of them.

He is now the medical establishment.

Everything that happens now is his responsibility. We are allowed to make demands of him and call him a failure if he doesn’t do them.
“Bhattacharya has been a vocal critic of the NIH. He gained attention as a co-author and signer of The Great Barrington Declaration”… a wildly incorrect document that would have killed tens of thousands if followed, and NIH scientists correctly told him so.
Senate confirms Bhattacharya to lead NIH - Roll Call

Real science can’t happen when politicians make the decisions about what to study instead of relying on expert opinions. (Right @radiofreetom.bsky.social ?)

Here’s your Trump NIH:
Michael Lin (Stanford) reports his grant on anti-COVID meds was terminated.

Pandemics become endemic.
Endemic diseases require treatments.
Treatments require research.
Research requires continuity of support.
Continuity of support requires federal funding.

But the WH just doesn't get it.

Journalists and scientists: This vaccine analysis will come from the junk Trump NIH. Let’s say that.

Perhaps someday we’ll have a real NIH again. Until then we must be clear.

They’re not going to get out of this by playing semantics.

Sending detailed information about an upcoming military strike on unclassified channels (and even to the wrong guy) is wrong, reckless, and obviously a threat to American troops.
