In honor of losing both my dad and grandmother to this disease, I've started a team to help raise awareness and fundraise for this year's @alzassociation.bsky.social Walk ("If You Feel It, Chase the Alzheimer's Cure"). The walk is set for Saturday, Nov 1. Any support is greatly appreciated!

Yep that was a typo on my end so my bad. Still not the most ideal situation to find ourselves in. It speaks to the whole argument about how much of an impact these seemingly small things have on the general public and what a disadvantage it would be should they be interrupted in any way.

I think it ultimately just came down to licensing agreements with McLaren and Fanatec needing to remove the branding for this generation of wheel, which really isn’t a big deal. It’s still a solid bang-for-the-buck wheel with more than enough switches and toggles for most sim racers.

Something worth keeping an eye on.

A prolonged shutdown would quickly make this something dicey for smaller airports that have subsidies that allow them to run operations to connect to the larger airport network.

US DOT warns airlines it might not be able to pay them for EAS operations after Sunday. Carriers can operate the flights at risk, with a promise of eventually maybe being paid back under whatever terms the new budget offers.

Cool to have a multi-year contract the other party can just kill.
By this Notice, the U.S. Department of Transportation (the Department) provides notice of a
potential future shortfall of appropriated funding for Essential Air Service (EAS) contracts and
Alternate Essential Air Service (AEAS) grants. Should a prolonged government-wide lapse in
appropriations last beyond October 12, 2025, the Department will relieve air carriers of their
obligations under EAS contracts, and will suspend reimbursement under AEAS grants,
beginning on October 13, 2025, until such time as appropriated funding is restored, and full
budgetary authority is reinstated.

12 years is a long time. A good stretch. But the EF-5 “drought” has ended.

Also, this is a lesson to the Monday morning quarterbacks that this took *3 months* to confirm. Good analysis takes time. So save your hot takes immediately after an event.

Well there it is. The first confirmed EF-5 tornado in 12 years.
"The maximum wind speed of the Enderlin, ND tornado #1 is greater than 210 mph and occurred during the time of the train derailment south of Enderlin, ND."

Post-storm reanalyses are *crucial* for authentic event record-keeping.

This is especially relevant for anyone who's ever worked with code and had to step away from it for x amount of time. Like me this morning 😅
Meme of someone with random equations surrounding them. Text says "When you return from vacation & try to remember how to do your job".

Grateful to have spent the last week in Sebring with @montanam.bsky.social and my mom. A lot of healing was done and, while we will always miss my dad, the time spent reminiscing about the good times and memories when he was alive was what we needed.

Me: Can Congress do their job properly so we can f****** get back to this level of standards?!

Congress: Lmao.
MUSE OF HISTORY. October 4, 1996. On this date, Congress adjourned for the year. Four days earlier, the GOP House and Senate had approved a ‘minibus’ of 6 government funding bills to finish spending work for 1997 — before the start of the new fiscal year on October 1. That was the last time Congress did not need to approve a temporary government funding measure known as a CR.

IMO, games 2 and 3 are some of the worst managed postseason games by Cora I’ve seen, if not some of the worst, period. The series went from “you know, Boston might have something” to the Red Sox have no idea what to do in the postseason.

Any federal shutdown is unacceptable, and the fact that it continues to be used as a political playing card for leverage is abhorrent.

I stand with my Federal colleagues who will be negatively impacted by this. Their commitment and dedication to public service must be valued, not retaliated on.

“Pan con bistec” (steak sandwich) for that spot-on Cuban comfort lunch. When we lived in Miami, my grandfather used to have me or my mom go out and get like 5 of these for the family on any Saturday that he’d visit. Things you take for granted when you move away.

Food is a natural storyteller.

Granted, the siren system has its limits and should not solely replace other methods of obtaining warnings (e.g., NOAA weather radio, TV broadcast, WEAs, etc…), but after the tornado outbreak associated w/ Milton last year, states like FL w/o this system should at least consider budgeting for this.

Just in reminiscence…

There’s just something about it… my dad may no longer physically on this earth, but it hit me while looking through mom’s backyard that his presence is still very much alive. It’s one of those reassurances for the healing to continue.

Again, it’s the little things.

This is PRECISELY why folks can't take just one forecast and use it as gospel over a period of time.

The models for #TD9 were super tricky, and 48 hours ago we were thinking about a landfall in the Carolinas as a possibility.

Now it's going to take a literal right turn!

Headed to FL by way of DFW to visit family after dad passed, and go figure that our gate was right by the Univision kiosk. He spent many years at the network as a teleprompter operator for the flagship weekday morning show until his retirement.

Hey, it’s the little things 🙂
