Eine Mehrheit befürwortet das Aufweichen des Verbrenner-Aus. Wer denkt, dass er oder sie dann nach 2035 weiter Verbrenner fahren wird, wird aber gerade verarscht. Die Entscheidung bedeutet, dass du 2035 eben ein chinesisches statt ein deutsches E-Auto fahren wirst.

Still, the same uncertain environment, the same spirit of chaos, also presented an opportunity: Those who could abide the ridicule inherent to associating with the president would have the chance to benefit from his uncommon openness and suggestibility. I cited the example of Kim Kardashian. In the first administration, she had managed to lobby the president successfully to commute the sentence of a woman serving a lifelong prison term for a nonviolent drug offense and to sign into law criminal justice reform legislation called the First Step Act. For her willingness to appear foolish standing alongside the president, a kind of courage, she had wrought genuine good for others. He was also clear-eyed about the president himself. “I always thought of him as a novel: hundreds of lies that amount to one big truth,” he told me. As someone whose job was to bear witness to the president and explain what I had seen to others, and who had devoted many thousands of words over many years to doing so, this concise description struck me as about perfect. As a writer I was almost jealous—and I loved that. It was his responsibility to try his best to live up to their belief, to treat his every decision as a candidate, even if the decision was to end his candidacy, as a presidential decision, made in the manner of a public servant, with all personal concerns—about backlash in Hollywood and related friction in his private life—pushed aside in favor of the central concern of what would be best for the country. I was sure he could do that, I said, because I trusted him that much. He started to cry. “I wish I could just be with you,” he said.

But perhaps all this was not as improbable as it looked and sounded. Trump bellows and insults and demeans, but so much of that is an act, guff and bullying. His earlier talk of Mamdani as “my little communist mayor” even carried an odd hint of affection, and there was evident admiration in the way in which he spoke of Mamdani’s unlikely mayoral victory. These men are, in their very different ways, populists, Queens men, and sometimes statists; they share a disdain for political establishments. And Trump, the developer, is aware of the extremely high cost of New York real estate, a focus of Mamdani’s campaign.

#GermanPolls: Beim ZDF-Politbarometer werden FDP und BSW unter 3% angegeben. Gleichzeitig sind Sonstige bei 11% statt bei den früheren 6% (die galten von Mai bis September 2025). Meine Abschätzung wäre also, dass beide Parteien hier ungefähr bei 2,5% liegen.

Obvious but worth saying. We really think the White House/DOJ which disappears documents and people pretty regularly is gonna go, "Welp, House voted so I guess we have to turn over the stag films of Trump with a 15 yr old. The rules are the rules." I'm not saying the exercise is pointless at all.
