This lawsuit is brutal. One of the exhibits is the letter Universal sent to Midjourney, including a quote from a 2022 Forbes interview that I bet midjourney regrets
Universal did not permit, authorize, or license Midjourney to copy or use any of Universal's copyrighted works in connection with any version of its Image Service or to otherwise exploit Universal's works at any time. You acknowledged as much in a September 16, 2022 Forbes interview in which you confirmed that Midjourney never sought any copyright holders' consent to use or exploit their works: Did you seek consent from living artists or work still under copyright? No. There isn't really a way to get a hundred million images and know where they're coming from. It would be cool if images had metadata embedded in them about the copyright owner or something. But that's not a thing; there's not a registry. There's no way to find a picture on the Internet, and then automatically trace it to an owner and then have any way of doing anything to authenticate it. See Rob Salkowitz. Close up of the Murderbot helmet, being held by one of the props people. You can see the careful scarring and damage added by props, which I felt was one of the elements that highlighted the creativity of everyone who worked on the show. I just thought this sign in the lunch area was cool. It says "Sanctuary" because that's the code word Apple was using for the show at the time. This area was also used for people who just needed a table to work on. When the unit publicist was interviewing me, there was a props person working on making the pieces of one of the weapons look like it had been blown apart in an explosion. This is a run-through of the scene we got to watch filmed the day we were there. We were sitting on a bench inside the hopper. You can see Noma Dumezweni, Akshay Khanna, Alexander Skarsgård, and Sabrina Wu, some not in costume yet. There's also a crew member standing in the back. This is part of the gigantic camera that extended through into the back of the hopper. Also you can see the two monitors, one for the big camera and one for (I think) the steadycam. This is where we sat for most of the day, in a little area in front of the monitors where the producers and guests sit. You have to be careful moving around the soundstage, especially when the lights are down. It was so big it was easy to get lost.

This was my chair on the set. This is me with Christ Weitz, who with his brother Paul Weitz, are the executive producers, directors, and writers of Murderbot. Their production company Depth of Field optioned All Systems Red in 2021 and they've been working hard to bring it to TV ever since. This is me with the ball and chart, taken through the monitor while I'm standing in front of the big camera in the hopper set. This has to be done periodically for the special effects team.

I keep seeing people say that Murderbot refers to itself as "she/her" in the books (you know, the ones I wrote). Could someone comment with a quote (from the books I wrote) or point me (the writer) to where that is? Maybe I can clear up the confusion. In the books. Which I wrote.

Another lore-adjacent topic that’s fun to chew on. These are just my views and not ‘policy’ or whatever. Accents in character voices are not ‘real’ any more than their dialog is English. It could be a stylistic tool to show someone sounds different than someone else, but it isn’t literal.
