One year ago today we absolutely didn't shoot the Azerbaijani airliner, stop it landing, jam its navigation & send it out to sea in hope it sinks, leaving no evidence.

And in unrelated events, the Azerbaijanis told us to stop spreading lies about what we did not do.

Russia can formalise all sorts of things, but those promises aren’t worth the paper they’re written on.

Putin will invent reasons for new ‘special military operations’, will claim that he is being attacked.

Russia promised to respect Ukraine’s sovereignty in the 1994 Budapest Memorandum, too.

This is, as always, very good.

It's worth remembering that at the present rate of advance it'd take the Russians roughly *40 years* to reach Kyiv, and at the present rate of loses they'd lose 20m people in doing so.

It's just as unsustainable for them to continue as Ukraine.
My latest post looks at the battle for Kupyansk, where Ukraine has enjoyed some recent success, and its relevance to the narrative war between Russia and Ukraine. (£/free trial), open.substack.com/pub/samf/p/w...?

Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems that two years of weaponised genocidal mass murder in Gaza has probably made global political violence and terror *MORE* likely, not *LESS* likely

And that opposing mass death makes you anti-terrorism, not pro-terrorism

Never forget, Russia started the war unprovoked. Only because the billionaire dictator Putin wanted to expand his territories, steal Ukraine’s vast natural resources, and make himself wealthier.

If Europe doesn't manage to achieve consensus on taking Ru's frozen assets and giving them to Ukraine, then its strategic, moral, and self-preservation instincts are weaker than I thought. I'm a big believer in the European project, but failure here will be a bad sign for its future.

Yesterday was a dark day in our nation's history.

But we are stronger than the cowards who did this.

We refuse to let them divide us.

Australia will never submit to division, violence or hatred - and we will come through this together.

Have you noticed how “corruption” is a constant media buzzword in articles about Ukraine, yet rarely comes up when discussing the current administration? Many things the Trump administration did would be considered exorbitant even by today’s Ukrainian “corruption standards”.
