This is a fairly considerable betrayal on Bluesky's part given part of their articulated vision for AT Protocol was personal data portability even in the event of an adversarial PDS. Now they are the adversarial PDS and it turns out they don't want the data to be portable.

Suspension of accts from Bluesky has called into question the mission and very existence of Blacksky. "If bsky can still suspend you, what's the point?"

For one usually Bluesky doesn't just suspend you. They delete all of your data AND suspend you. Moving to Blacksky prevents that. 4/11

I wonder what was going on then that the antifascist movement was responding to. So weird I can't figure it out

I met Andy Ngo once, when I was speaking at a thing and he found me backstage and tried get me to say something he could use against me.

What leaped out was how comically shifty he was. Nervous, sweaty, desperate. No game at all, no charm.

Up close, they are what you figure they are.

all of these companies have a fucking platform. that's because they are trying to replace direct human-human relationships with mediated human-platform-human transactions

One of the reasons I insistently call it X and not Twitter is because X is quite literally a propaganda platform run by Elon Musk and heavily utilized by the Trump administration and that is notably distinct from Twitter

404 Media has coverage and a pod out on this as well. Google made the same choice. These companies will not save us. They will happily feed as many of us into the chipper shredder as is necessary to keep themselves in the good graces of the regime.

this. We ask literally everyone to bend over backwards for cars, yet cars are treated like this glass vase that will shatter if you make modifications to the world to slow them down.

We ask everyone outside of the car to be safe so that drivers can be dangerous.

That’s the entirety of our approach to road safety.

one thing I learned during 2020 is that "less than lethal" munitions are explicitly designed to be shot into the ground so they lose velocity and bounce up into people and the reason I didn't know that before is literally NO ONE has ever deployed them that way.

Reporter's notebook: I actually began working on this story shortly after footage of the incident showed up last month.

But by the time I finally got ahold of folks, the story grew: 2 *other* faith leaders I spoke with *also* reported being shot w/pepper balls while protesting this ICE facility.

...vague suggestion doesn't change the fact that it's illegal. Murder, which people do, is illegal. Speeding? Illegal. Anyway, it was circular and hermetic and I need to keep reminding myself that there are a lot of techno-optimists and they are .. there is no arguing with them.
