As a primatologist, Jane Goodall was a huge inspiration to me. I admired the way she describes chimpanzee behavior with such detail and empathy, and she’s inspired so many people and advocated for chimpanzee conservation and welfare.

However, I'm dismayed at what her narrative leaves out (1/10)

Please share with anyone who cares about NSF support for graduate students and take 30 seconds to sign and leave a comment.

The deadline for the 2025 Graduate Research Fellowship Program is about one month away and literally no one can apply. #NSFGRFP

Friendly Reminder Frauengesundheit.

Standing up for science is one way to push back against political attacks on the university sector 👇 Experts in biology and anthropology have put together this statement to counter misinformation about race. Please consider signing and sharing

Trump's very first example of the Smithsonian's "corrosive ideology" was an exhibit that correctly stated "Race is a human invention." How is scientific consensus (that biological races don't exist in humans) corrosive? We are asking scientists to co-sign our statement: forms.gle/kqKQF9CZ3jPB...

I had a great conversation with Abby. If you have 1-2 hours of your time to talk about/reflect on your story as a female PhD holder in STEM, and whether you're still in or no longer in academia, you should definitely reach out to her!
Please share her call around you #WomenInSTEM
Call for participants. Women with PhDs in STEM: tell your story.
Abby is writing a book on the transition after the PhD and its complex realities, including topics like motherhood, identity, leadership, career, etc. She's looking for people who identify as women with PhD in any STEM fields for an interview (online or in Munich), for 60 to 90 minutes to share their story and reflect on their experience.

I am wondering if in German kids books, the gendering follows the genus the animal's name has in German. Like are bears more often Male because "der Bär" is masculin?

@cvq.bsky.social, another colleague and I contributed to this great series by TREE. We talk about our experiences with neurological disorders, the effects on our careers, and give some suggestions on structural changes that would help researchers with invisible disabilities like ours in EcoEvo.

Thank goodness the people of Indiana will be spared the indignity of math teachers who got their Bachelors of Education from the flagship state school, the country's best collegiate program for ballet, and an astonishingly strong set of African language instruction.

A great article on a topic that is too often ignored (or not even recognized) by people in power in academia. Wealth determines the activities you can participate in (which determines your career prospects) and if you can stay in academia long enough to maybe have a career. #DEI #STEM

Last February, I led a proposal submission that encompassed six months, hundreds of hours, four institutions, a massive team, and and 256 pages. NSF just informed us that the entire Biology Integration Institute program was archived and our proposal would not even be reviewed.

With a form email.
A screen shot of an email reading:

Dear Dr. Gill, Jacquelyn,

I am writing to let you know that given the current budgetary projections and recent adjustment of NSF’s over-arching priorities, NSF/BIO will not be making any new awards through the Biology Integration Institutes Program. Therefore, the solicitation has been archived, and NSF has returned your proposal without review so you can re-submit it, or portions of it, to appropriate BIO programs that currently are receiving new proposals, if you wish.

Sincerely,

Jim Deshler

Faschismus.

This is disgusting.

If this is how they treat Alex Padilla, a United States Senator, how do you think they’ll treat you?
