This account is mostly Map and GIS celebration (some gripes)+ elevation of others' mappy work. It will detour into carnivorous plants, nudibranchs, birds, corny puns, stands against fascism and authoritarianism, sharing natural wonder, rowboat and bike adventures, childcare and adult dementia care.

Also, it's pomegranate season for those that celebrate.
Another gardening win today that I carried into the smell of pear butter slowly cooking down in the kitchen.

On a side note, 25 years ago I brought a moist piece of live coastal redwood stump-sprouting burl to the Tblisi arboretum. The only way I could get it though ag inspection. To the inspectors at every airport it was just a chunk of wet wood in a ziplock bag. Should be a small tree now. I should check

Each week on my patreon I write about #maps and #mapmaking, offering a look behind the curtain & highlighting the books my maps are in. The posts are mostly free for anyone to read without a subscription.

Today, I wrote about some reproductions of historical maps!

The lack of breeze, bright moon, and comfortable temperature makes me nostalgic for nights like this, coming up through the marine terraces and coastal prairie from the Kitchen Brothers' place, into the coastal redwood forest to spend the night tending the trails, signs, and delights of Elf Land

It seems clear—I think to everyone, now—that a false and illegal invocation of the Insurrection Act is coming before the end of the year. Media outlets should be telling us how they will prepare for this potential Treason. State governments should be telling us. Activists should be developing plans.

Budget cuts come for us all. My contract with Amtrak is not being renewed and it's up tomorrow.

I'll have more time to work on the Map Center but until it's fully off the ground, I'm a GIS analyst with 12 years of experience in ESRI, open source, education and cartography.

Final slow motion video of the snowy egret catching a fish after the fish thought it escaped. shot in 120FPS 4K. one of the few good recent tech innovations is high speed consumer/affordable pro video, can't wait to get even better ones like this in 3-4 years! 🪶

Samsung has made some spectacular and useful products.
However, I believe their company would fold quickly if they were forced to use the autocorrect and word replacement on their Galaxy phones exclusively for corporate communications. #duckingoverit

Disturbed myself when I went to service the multi camera security system and found I had forgot that I had name it Sauron. Not original or unique I am sure, creeped out chuckle.
