This is not a peace plan. It is a proposal that weakens Ukraine and divides America from Europe, preparing the way for a larger war in the future. In the meantime, it benefits unnamed Russian and American investors, at the expense of everyone else.

Who would benefit from the White House’s 28-point proposal for Ukraine?

Called in to my local [insert brand of car] main dealer to book a service. Lady at reception told me I could only do it by phone. She did offer me a seat while I phoned the actual building I was in.
We went to a Parisian museum the other day where the staff could only check tickets but not sell tickets so we had to buy them on our phones outside in the rain (and of course you had to create an account etc etc) and I really thought I was going crazy.
today in We Live In The Future And The Future Is Stupid: went to a pub to inquire about a potential room booking but the staff aren't allowed to process those in person so I am now sitting in the pub, writing them an email to inquire about a potential room booking

"We always think about America’s postwar role in Europe as an act of great generosity, the defense of allies from Soviet aggression. But by putting democracy at the center of our international identity, we also helped strengthen our own political system"

The Beacon of Democracy Goes Dark
For nearly 250 years, America promoted freedom and equality abroad, even when it failed to live up to those ideals itself. Not anymore.

Trump goes on rant about how the limestone he selected for the White House was damaged and how he looked up video surveillance footage to blame a contractor. Trump says he will now charge the contractor for the damage.

Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player,
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage,
And then is heard no more.
Our life is like a play. In our 20s and 30s we’re hoping to make a grand entrance. In our 40s and 50s trying to stay on stage. And in our 60s and 70s hoping to make a graceful exit

The curious thing about this is that, unlike many of Trump's claims, every true believer with a MAGA cap and F-150 pickup must be able to see for him/herself that this is untrue. Are they willing to deny the evidence of their own eyes and ears?

Last week, Trump triumphantly announced, "Gasoline just broke $1.98 a Gallon" even as the average price at the pump was $3.18.

Fact check: Gasoline did touch $1.98 briefly in April, but not at any gas station in the country.
Trump touts $1.98 gas but this is where that number comes from
Gasoline did touch $1.98 in April but not at any retail pump in the nation.

Also a significant ethical issue in software design for self-driving cars, in situations where a choice has to be made between (say) injuring a child in the road and injuring the driver by swerving and colliding with a wall.
Interesting to see that US safety standards focus on what happens to people inside the car on collision, whereas in the UK there’s a much greater focus on pedestrian safety and that of people in the cars you collide with.
Cyber truck seized in UK. It doesn't meet standards for driving in the country & is not permitted on the streets.

It is legitimate to argue against net zero. It is entirely wrong to assert that a majority of scientists deny man-made climate change. Tice can only be doing this because he thinks it will get him votes, and he cares not a jot about truth or integrity. Dangerous and irresponsible political behaviour
Reform UK’s Richard Tice says it’s ‘absolute garbage’ to say human activities are the main cause of climate change

Odds of Trump declaring he wants to make the UK 52nd/53rd/54th state by the end of the year?

World politics at the moment seems, depressingly, to be turning into a collection of Melian dialogues.
i keep thinking about how much of western diplomacy/defence policy rests on assuming that America will kind of graciously not use the ability it has to win every argument, or if it does will do so ..nicely. & how there isn't a strategy for if they just steamroll everything because they can
