Yesterday's unexpected climate conversation was with the lady running the crepe van in the Christmas market who was astounded that a catering size jar of Nutella had doubled in the last few years, which led to a discussion on the substantial rise in the cost of chocolate due to extreme weather.
Happily, there's one simple trick to overcome this misinformation

It's called talking
Most Brits want climate action but think their neighbours don't. Most Brits support renewable energy but think their neighbours don't.

This is the work of relentless misinformation by our right-wing press and the oiligarchy.

Some of us need to fight within the system, some of us need to create new systems, some us need to tend the wounded, some of us need to stand in the way of harm, and all of us need to support the ones doing the things that is not, right now, our thing to do. Good thing there are a lot of us.

Exactly this, and I am always surprised how this escapes some people grammatically- both those trying to be trans inclusive and exclusionary. BSUH used 'pregnant women and people' in the literature they sent me, raising the alarming prospect that 'women' may be a separate category to people...
I am simultaneously a pregnant woman and a pregnant person *because that is how nesting categories work*. Calling me a pregnant person does not negate the fact that I am a pregnant woman. Just like, I dunno, calling me a woman does not negate the fact that I am a British woman.

When the BBC has become so terrified of the right wing press that it's banning its presenters from talking about heating systems, then something's gone terribly wrong
BBC bans Evan Davis from informing the public on heat pumps. “As the world has ‘progressed’ in the past few months” the BBC “has become concerned that anything like this - informing people about heat pumps - can be interpreted as treading on areas of pulic controversy” youtu.be/RJPKgngqoX0?...

A lot of people reading this poll as 'two thirds of UK citizens are anti wolf reintroduction ' but...I mean...are 36% really against reintroducing wading birds? Unless there's some 'Ruff haters Alliance' or 'Campaign against Cranes' I think we might need to see the 'don't know' figures on this one!
With a new study suggesting that reintroducing wolves to the Scottish highlands could help the regeneration of natural woodland (by curbing the population of sapling-eating red deer), a previous YouGov study showed 36% of Britons willing to reintroduce wolves to the UK yougov.co.uk/politics/art...

In light of today's release of the land use framework consultation, anyone looking for sensible conversation among the gen pop and media coverage should first be aware that a staggering 63% of Brits genuinely believe we could be self sufficient in food.

Let them eat cabbage.
Do Britons think we could feed the UK population solely with food grown/produced in the UK?

Yes, currently could: 13%
Not currently, but could if we utilised our land differently: 50%
Not currently, and is not possible even if we utilised our land differently: 20%

Maybe I shouldn't be watching #TheTraitors so much - I've just caught a rogue 'myself' in an email I was writing. The horror.

I LOVE Christmas but find myself agreeing with nearly everything here (not the mince pie slander). Protect your love of Christmas by avoiding - decorating too early, turkey, cranberry sauce, overplayed festive pop, those markets, naff movies, Christmas ads or excessive gift giving.
right, it has been published

Your reminder that JSO, by using only their human bodies, were able to actually get out of the way to let blue lights in.
Ok tractors are blocking ambulances in central London now by Waterloo. Not deliberately, but it's having an impact

No response option for "I've half put the Christmas decorations up, realised I need to get some lights, so the tree is now sat there as naked as the day God* made it, but I guess I've put out the festive coasters' is there now?

*it's a second-hand artificial tree, so maybe not God...
It's 9 December, and 51% of Britons now have their Christmas decorations up

Have put up: 51% (+21 from 2 Dec)
Not put up yet: 30% (-19)
Not putting any up: 18% (=)

A challenging topic to catch up on in one's lunch hour, but I'll risk an unpopular opinion - the quality of debate in the HoC today on this has been generally excellent, which brings home how the usual poor quality is (part-?)driven by the whip system and not just 'politicians are all the same'
I'm going to do some coverage on here of the assisted dying debate. If you're not interested please mute this thread now. It'll probably go on a while.
