Timing of transfers (gifts+inheritances) matters for these differences: Men tend to inherit larger transfers during their working life, while women receive larger amounts at older ages outliving their husbands.

No Modigliani lifecycle for women! We find that the gender wealth gap widens after age 40, and declines for those past retirement age. Check out our new paper in Econ Letters: doi.org/10.1016/j.ec...

Event description:
Inequality in wealth is extreme, growing, and hurtful to democracy. But is it really that bad? Isn’t Germany a country that has managed to keep extreme forms of inequality at bay? And, anyways, what could possibly be done about it?

This public event will feature world-leading experts to help answer these questions, combining both new empirical data on the distribution of wealth and a new vision of what it would take to combat it.

Welcome by Prof. Dr. Bernd Huber and Prof. Dr. Fabian Pfeffer
