It is quite honestly breathtaking what a complete and utter fail Columbia’s total submission to Trump has been, for the university and academia at large.
They’re now the poster child for fascist takeover of academia and they have no easy way to back out and retroactively take a stand.

I do think that the people still in denial about democratic freedoms being stripped are waiting for people LIKE THEM to be impacted for it to "really" count.

Think it’s important to highlight how everyday violence of the U.S. criminal legal system is making what ICE is doing possible: this man was convicted of a crime at *16*; he was *pardoned*; when ICE came decades later they claimed the conviction made him a felon w/ no recourse against deportation

A new McCarthy era is upon us. Stupid, depressing, and dangerous as ever. I wonder whose name will carry the dunce cap in the history books. Too many are complicit. I’ll need to find upset and action, but for now I’m feeling grief at the dehumanization inherent to all this.

If I were an academic librarian whose library was being blockaded...I would be out there supporting those students in whatever way I could. Good for them. We can't say we defend first amendment rights and are "superheroes for democracy" if we're working against our patrons.
