For a lot of relatively comfortable Americans, electing an emotionally incontinent imbecile was a bit of entertainment. A game. Good sport, owning those libs. I hope they’re duly entertained.

SAVE Act just passed House. It is modern-day poll tax that would disenfranchise tens of millions of Americans, end online, mail + voter registration drives & require voters to register in person at election offices, forcing some rural voters to drive 8 hours to register. Total disaster in every way
🚨House voting on SAVE Act today, worst voter suppression bill ever considered by Congress. Could disenfranchise:

-21 million w/out access to citizenship docs
-69 million women who took spouses last name
-ends online + mail registration & voter reg drives

Oregonians showed up yesterday to send the powerful message to Trump that we are speaking up and pushing back. There's a long road ahead, but cracks are starting to form in their attack on America. Huge thanks to everyone who showed up to push the pendulum back to a better America.

He's talking about tariffs, but it applies to fascism, too. Fascism made a roaring comeback as soon as World War II veterans and Holocaust survivors started disappearing from daily life. It's not a coincidence.
Perhaps not coincidentally, we seem to periodically try this at right around the time everyone who actually had to live through the last try is dead.
We tried mass tariffs in 1828, and it crashed the economy. We tried again in 1930, and it crashed the economy.

Third time’s the charm, I guess.

This is blood-boiling. Charles Rogers was awarded the Medal of Honor in Vietnam after being wounded three times leading the defense of a position.

Google his name and the entry below comes up. When you click, you'll see the page has been deleted and the URL changed to include "DEI medal."

Trump isn’t just cutting off aid to Ukraine. He’s getting 3rd parties to cut off intelligence to Ukraine or refuse to sell critical intel data. It’s taking away UKR army’s eyes. He’s re-entered the war on Russia’s side, not with arms yet and in marginal ways, but affirmatively on Russia’s side.

The average American voter thinks that the government is too big but that it should spend more money on everything it does. This explains a decent share of the political chaos of this country.

I can't think of a faster way to undermine the country than simultaneously firing government workers, cutting scientific research, rolling back protections on public health & environment, & cutting essential services. It's like the US was defeated in war and is being occupied by a hostile enemy.

The point of excluding categories of people from the military like this is to send the message that they are unworthy of citizenship, it is pure bigotry and the assumptions behind it are disproven by the honorable service of the people being targeted in the first place bsky.app/profile/bran...
If transgender service members don't voluntarily agree to resign, they'll be forced by the Defense Department to repay the signing bonuses they received at enlistment. Not only will they be fired, they'll be punished with thousands of dollars in debt. All for attempting to serve their country.

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office.

Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc.

Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

People are "doing their own research" on fascism and it's going to get us all killed. Please listen to actual historians and political scientists.
As a political scientist who studies countries that managed to stop the slide into authoritarianism, I can assure you that ***refraining from provoking the authoritarian*** is not how it works.

Without further ado, I will now go tear out another chunk of hair.
"activist leaders have told him and colleagues that they fear protests against Trump might eventually be used as a predicate for declaring martial law. Other House Democrats echoed this privately"

So, they are
- illegally dismantling US govt, disabling Congress
- burning our alliances, turning US into global pariah
- reigniting inflation, exploding the deficit, unraveling US public health system
- putting backdoors into Treasury
This feels more like an attack on the US than a new government.

in what meaningful way can we say that the constitution is in effect when an unelected and unaccountable billionaire is wielding state power to unilaterally cancel congressional appropriations?
Hearing that DOGE went into the Dept of Education today and shut down almost the entirety of the department's in-house research arm, Institute of Educational Sciences, cancelling contracts totally about $900m.
