In late July, Paul Ingrassia, the White House liaison for the Department of Homeland Security, arrived at a Ritz-Carlton in Orlando with a lower-ranking female colleague and others from their department. When the group reached the front desk, the woman learned she didn't have a hotel room.
Ingrassia then informed her that she would be staying with him, according to five administration officials familiar with the episode. Eventually the woman discovered that Ingrassia had arranged ahead of time to have her hotel room canceled so she would have to stay with him, three of those officials said.

I'm #writing a small-town romance, and it's got quirky customs and nosy townspeople, but I don't want to get too saccharine about it. Gossip can move the plot along, for example, but IRL can be terribly toxic. I want to convey something authentic, even if a bit idealized for rom-com effect.

TBH, I'm not all-in on the deification of small towns and the assumption that the city is cold and calculating. Cities can be solid communities & some of the most toxic behavior I've ever seen was in small towns. But the appeal of an idealized place where everyone is known and welcomed is strong...

Thanks for recommending it! I'm afraid athletics doesn't have a corner on this market. This author has the dynamics down. Predators seem plausible, move incrementally, and make sure they're protected by those reliant on them. And some men often have no idea what these other men are doing.

Logan Township Police Chief Dave Hoover told The Altoona Mirror that the deaths appear to have been related to a domestic violence incident based on evidence at the scene.

1) Highlights how very easy it is for men to miss when other men are harassing women, esp in systems which protect power

2) Sometimes romance novels contain crucial observations about the patriarchy and those healing from its harms.
