Intently trying not to be That Linux/Open-Source Guy in other peoples mentions is hard. Know that if I slip up and become That Guy in your mentions, it was from a lifetime enduring enshittification and learning hundreds of neat little ways to avoid getting trapped by it.

when you put your work out there in some public way, it kinda leaves your hands. you lose control of how its perceived. for better and definitely for worse lately. I’ve learned to let go of that feeling of importance. but hope those same folks have the curiosity to see what else i’ve been doing.

Saw they’re making a standalone Gaston movie from Beauty and the Beast. Anyway, here’s Guy Debord in Society of the Spectacle:

I don't feel like arguing with people on Reddit, so gonna put my opinion on Welcome to Derry here.

As a Stephen King fanboy, I think I finally realized why the movies and the show miss the mark. Been a while since I watched the movies, but pretty sure the same thing is missing: the power of belief.

It's the same with "felon." This is also a losing strategy, if humanity isn't enough for you -- turns out a lot of people have felony convictions and a lot of people use drugs. Some people are awful and do awful things regardless of their status as an undesirable.

Calling awful people “druggies” doesn’t make them less awful but it does make it easier to ignore all the people using drugs and dying early death bc they don’t like being treated without dignity.

Just so I'm clear on this, computer memory has tripled in price because a bunch of it that hasn't been produced yet has been ordered to populate GPUs that aren't installed in data centers that aren't built yet in order to service a demand that doesn't exist to make profits that don't happen.

I used to go to a lot of estate sales (mostly to buy old woodworking tools) and I think I've come to a realization.

See, I had this theory that there's this weird demographic that specifically seeks out fine china, the kind your grandma had in a special cabinet for display when you were a kid.

Soma's probably one of the best games in the "run from enemies because you're just some person who ain't got that fight in them" genre. It answers the question "what if that Black Mirror episode San Junipero took place in Rapture from Bioshock but Rapture wasn't done being built yet."

Look at the bright side, though: it now costs six thousand dollars to build a gaming PC and you cannot talk to humans when you call a business anymore.

What's up GEEKS and NERDS, welcome to the podcast where we talk about all the things our fellow dorks love like comic books, funko pops, and making references to Adult Swim cartoons in lieu of having a personality. We're geeks, and we're proud. Nerds for life. Now let's get right into GEEKING OUT.

The Expanse subreddit has always had about 3-4 posts a day that boil down to "I finished the show, I want to know what happens, where do I pick up with the books" when the question has been answered a million times before (start with book 1, the show and books are different.)
It's become clear that the average media-consumer has a hunger for lore that cannot be satiated.

We have to stop. We have to turn back before everything is Star Trek.
