It was all very painless
When you went out to receive
All that false instruction
Which we never could believe
And now the heart is filled with gold
As if it was a purse

A reminder that the US killed 80 people in Venezuela, and it would be nice if the US media cared enough to think that the life of a grandmother in Caracas whose building is destroyed by a US bomb matters as much as the life of a person in the US.

The world is going to shit, but I've got a warm house, a good dog and my wife has just let me choose what soup she should make. We have to remember to appreciate the things that can still make us happy.

Finally worked out how to get StoryGraph to generate a year's reading graphic. 31 books + 1 DNF in 2025.

Tidal's AI generated view of my year's listening reminds me of nothing more than Pseud's Corner from Private Eye magazine.

Started watching The Abandons. The dog has been killed in the first episode. Might not watch any more.

UK news today is full of how difficult and expensive it will be for Brits to travel to the USA to watch World Cup games. Expect half empty stadiums.

The UK, where the day after a decision to take half a million children out of poverty, the media & political world has been full of sneering at those same children & their families, labelling them as ‘Benefits Street’, while the same people are moaning about a tax on £2m mansions. Shameful stuff.

Remembrance Day is now dominated by performative nonsense. You don't need a house sized poppy and a model spitfire to show you care about the sacrifices made for the country. Where's the sense of dignity and the quiet respect gone?

I've written a couple of things over the last days about how the government and much of Westminster remaining on X as the platform becomes increasingly toxic is having consequences for our politics...
Our politics is increasingly normalised to racism – because politicians are addicted to X
The platform has quietly dragged British politics into a dark place

The true question right now is whether you believe in the moral character of the British public. If you do, you'll want to have the fight with Reform. You'll believe that the public will hate the idea of breaking up families, spying on & deporting people who've worked here for years.

“When these images are shown to school children in a decade’s time, maybe even five decades, will you be able to say you did what you could to prevent it? Or will you stand, shamefaced, knowing that you supported, were even complicit, in a live screened genocide? #JusticeForGaza
