A few updates to my Basic D&D rules cover homages article!

Morgue's Basic is a brand new booklet that shows the unfortunate fate of the green dragon Erol Otus drew 45 years earlier.

I also turned up an older SnarfQuest Tales ad that homages BECMI.

There are so many decisions to make and potential mistakes when reprinting.

Timing. Printing too many vs too few. Matching quality — or figuring out if there's an acceptable change. Does the price stay the same or does it get bumped to match a more recent book? How many corrections are worth it?

My least favorite bit about self-publishing is figuring out the right time to do a new print run. It costs tens of thousands of dollars, so I can't over-invest in stock, but I inevitably get caught off guard by a sell-through and have long gaps where items are not available at all. I suck at it.

Escrow officially closed today on our house in El Cerrito. Aside from friends and family I no longer have ties to the SF Bay Area. After 55 years, that is a seriously weird thing to say.

Also, I personally think things you consider the best histories would be a totally different list for each person who reads the books. ;) Overlap, sure…but people have such rabbit hole loves that I just don’t see that being the same for everyone.
